What's the state of your home?

Kinda messy to sort of clean.

We have no kids, but we do have a large, exuberant dog who runs rampant in our muddy backyard, and a very small house. My husband washes the dog's paws off every time he comes into the house with warm, sudsy water, but he still manages to leave paw prints. I chase them down with the mop a few times per day.

There is only about four feet of linear kitchen counter space, no dishwasher, and we love to create amazing feasts, which does not always make for a clean kitchen.

But we have fun.

As long as the bathrooms, kitchen, living areas and my room are clean, I don't care. The kids rooms are.... they are... well, I can't imagine it getting much worse, to be honest with you, and they are pretty bad already. And I have two boys... :+

I have organized caos. No one can find anything in my house but me. My DH hates that. He'll look for something forever and I can usually find it in three seconds. I know my mess! Anyway, we have three little boys 8 and under, so the toilets and sink are always in disarray! The floors are my arch nemisis! I could scrub them three times a day! So, I sweep every night before bed and mop once a week and that has to be good enough for now!

Considering that we're just two mature adults, I'd like to say "spotless" but that ain't happenin'. I went for "pretty neat". I've finally resolved that the only way to get rid of all my DH's stuff is to get rid of him. I'm still thinkin' about it.

Pretty clean on most days, but quite messy other days...sigh! I would also like to add that there is probably a range in the definition of cleanliness. To some of my friends, it isn't clean until you can eat off of every surface...to me clean is everything put away in its home and floors clean (furniture not necessarily dusted, but bathrooms MUST be clean!!)

I'd also like to add a plug for www.flylady.com

I subscribed to her (it's free), for about a year and she taught me better ways to keep my house clean. She sends about a million e-mails a day, but you eventually just read the title of the e-mail and delete it. It is just a reminder of what you are supposed to do each day.

Come to think of it. I wonder how her e-mails look these days...I might subscribe again!

I had a one year assignment where I worked out of state for two to four days a week for a year. The company rented me a small cottage for that year.

When I was there alone, it was spotless. When DH and DD would come to spend the weekend with me, it would be destroyed in two minutes. Yet DH says all the mess in our house is mine. Why do I find that hard to believe???

Well, since you did not have an "utter and total chaos" catagory, I had to go with the really messy one.

We have 6 kids, 12 and under, and I home school, which means that pretty much everyone is here all day long. The three older ones do chores, but are gone afternoon/evening for sports. Then I'm left with the three little ones, who continue to make life very interesting.

I think a big problem is that there is no underlying organization to the home and things pile up and then I just get overwhelmed at knowing where to start and end up on the computer, like now.

I'd also like to add that my husband is very helpful, but we just can't seem to conquer the chaos.

I'm actually really ashamed of this.

I've often thought that if I did not spend time working out, that would be and extra 90 min per day for cleaning/organizing/home/garden projects. (60 min exercise--about 30 min changing and getting everyone set up so that I can exercise--I don't actually workout for 90 min)

But given the choice between working out and clean house, I'll choose the workouts any day.

I am like you, Shelley, and I actually like to clean. I can't stand dirt, dust, messes and clutter. When my kids were little, I used to clean the kitchen floor twice a day.
