I'm asking this because I can't seem to have a neat home. Tonight, my youngest decided to take a bath in my bathroom, in the jacuzzi. Well, I had put the trash can up next to the bathtub, so the dogs couldn't get in it and pull out paper, etc. One of the more objectionable objects from the can fell into the tub, and this object got stuck in one of the jacuzzi jets. At the same time, too much bath gel must have been added, because once the jets were on, the bubbles overflowed the tub. When the tub was drained, massive amounts of bubbles were still all over, and two barbies were at the bottom of the tub, which was good, because my DD thought one of the barbies had been sucked into one of the jets. This always seems to be the state of my home. Sigh.

I'm in the same boat! We have 3 active sons and are always busy with them. We come and go so much that we simply don't have time (or make time) to put everything in its place. Ususally on the weekends I have us all spend 30 minutes just putting all the stuff away, backpacks, cleats, balls, coats, clothes etc. I would love to have a clean house all the time, but it just isn't a reality for me. We live in our house, it is not a show home so I'm used to it looking the way it does.

I used to keep a spotless home. No more. Why? I keep a home that is clean enough, loved and lived in. Full of yummy smells from the kitchen and a hug and healthy converstation when needed. My kids help with their chores...do their own laundry and dishes and bathroom. I did not teach them how to do such chores until they were about 12...a bad thing. I do NOT want to criple my kids. It took a very well intentioned friend to tell me that I was doing too much for them. Now, there is so much more balance in my home and peace as a result. Everyone has more time to do the things that make them happy...even me. deb

HAHAHA!!

Sorry, I just had to laugh cuz I have a 2 and a 4 yr old. I really don't see the point in cleaning the floors. (I do it though), but really, why bother when it doesn't last?:p I scrub the kitchen floor at night after everyone goes to bed so I know it will stay clean for more then 30 min.
I also have a DH. Do I need to say more???:p LOL!
Niether one of these *boys* knows how to aim either!x(

Really, I understand the frustrations. i just do what I can when I can, and once a week I do a good scrubbing, as long as it won't intefere with my working out!;)

We are currently in the process of selling our home..so we are on a constant state of alert in case someone wants to look at it!!! I am constantly picking up clutter and vacuuming. Anyone looking for a home in Naperville Illinois?? Or know someone who is?

Debra- My younger brother just moved into a house in North Aurora! My parents also live in Elburn.

There is just myself, DH and 3 cats and I still can't seem to keep the house straightened up!!! I find it funny that last December when DH went to visit his family for 6 weeks, I had NO problem at all keeping it neat and clean, but with DH around, FORGET IT!!! And he seems to think that it has something to do with me!!

The hard part is that I am the sole bread winner, working full time and DH is disabled. He tries to do some of the housework, but over the last 6 months, that's has seriously waned!!!

I voted Very Neat, even though I have two big dogs and a 9 year old. Without them, it would be spotless;) I'm weird. I like cleaning. And I can't stand clutter. Must be a legacy from my mom, because my sister is exactly the same.

I didn't vote. LOL The state of my home, like many here, changes in the blink of an eye!

If I lived alone the house would be neat all of the time but with my DH, my dog and my DS it's very difficult to keep it that way steadily.

I am not one who lives to clean. I do it but it's not "my thing". I will clean, straighten and clean again and yet with an hour or 2 the house seems to revert back to the way it was. It's very frustrating.

I try to keep my living room, kitchen and bathroom the cleanest/neatest.

The bedrooms I'll let slide, as well as the spare room which is DESTINED to be a mess cause it is 1,547,632 different rooms all rolled into 1.;)

<<<The state of my home, like many here, changes in the blink of an eye!

How true! Five active people in a home doesn't lend much time to clean. Bathrooms, Kitchen and living area are cleaned daily-but the rest seems to be catch all rooms. I use to be a neat freak, but have learned that I have to live and I am not living to clean!

My home is very much like Shelley's. I don't mind cleaning but I hate doing the floors. I was telling DH this weekend, if we didn't have two dogs, I would only have to clean once a month. But, they're my babies and I love them.

I can't seem to keep my house straight to save my life. It feels like I am constantly cleaning something, picking up, etc. My DH and DD take stuff off and leave it right there. I try to tell them to put it up but I am tired of doing that too. I sound like a broken record to myself so I just do it myself. I'm over it though. I love my family dearly but sometimes I just want to go wander around the mall or something just to get away from the house and the constant feeling that I've got to pick up, work on laundry, wipe the floor, put the dishes up, clean the bathroom, put the dirty clothes out in the garage.....(I'm going into the hypnotic house cleaning mode). Oh, and my 6yr. old stepdaughter just loves to "help". Unfortunately, she has trouble helping with what I tell her to do, she wants to do something she hasn't been told to do which usually results in something getting broken or misplaced x( . Like I said, I'm over it.

I voted pretty neat. I had to vote in the middle. Parts of my home is EXTREMELY neat and then there are areas that are down right...well....disgusting- My boy's rooms. Teenagers are messy, sloppy creatures.

To all the mothers with small children....
You think young children are messy??? HA! Think again, teenagers take the prize! When my kids were young I thought my house would get better as they aged.....WRONG!
Well, I'll admit to one advantage to older kids. When they're older, it is contained to their rooms:)

I'd like to say spotless but that hasn't been the case since I had to let my cleaning lady go after all of Cosmo's vet bills.

Nevertheless, it's still anally clean, I just don't have the chance to do the other stuff like wiping down baseboards & cleaning under the bed every week. x(

My house is also anally clean. That's why I would never own an animal, the fur would make me insane. I've always been a neat freak. I can't stand clutter either. I'm fortunate that DH and my oldest DD (who's 8) are also neat freaks. My younger DD is a slob, but we don't get on her case about it. I kind of wish I had her laid back attitude about cleaning. It would make my life a lot easier!

Ha Ha I had to laugh at this post because it is EXACTLY what I was going to say! I would have to say my house is "clean" but cluttered. I really can't stand a dirty bathroom or kitchen floor. I clean our ONE bathroom (with 5 people!) every day and mop the kitchen, bath, workroom twice a week with wetjet spot cleaning during the week. But forget keeping it picked up. I seriously get SOOO frustrated at my dd and dh. I have a teen ds (NEAT), teen dd (BIG SLOB), a 5y/o dd and a dh. DD is the worst and her bedroom is right in vision of the door, so if someone comes that is what they see - all the clothes she owns (that she decided that morning did not look good on her) piled on her bed. I use to have a spotless house. It was still pretty neat until the teen years. Now with them and dh it is a losing battle. Marnie

I'm usually somewhere between 'kinda messy' and 'pretty neat'. The house is CLEAN but we definitely struggle with tidy. Dishes are non-negotiable, they must be done but I cook and bake a lot so the kitchen is never truly closed. I am a paper freak, I have various piles of paper around that constantly ebb and flow but never disappear. My 3 daughters try to be tidy but somedays, not so much. Despite our collective untidiness I only need about 15 minutes to give the illusion of tidiness if I have unexpected company, so long as nobody looks under the couches, we're golden!!:+

Right now we are living in a 2 bedroom townhouse. We sold our huse and are having a house built. We have 5 children, four girls, 11, 10, 7, 4 and one son 22. Our son is away at school (GO KU!!!!) and is mostly home on weekends. We are packed into this townhouse. We had to rent 2 storage lockers for the overflow. So my house is always messy. My husband And I have to remind each other that it is only until February (we hope) and that we are saving a lot of money for all the new stuff we want for our house. I guess it is not as messy as it is full. Oh I forgot we only have one bathtub/shower for all of us. I know it is going to be worth it in the end. I just have to be patient. I just keep going out to look at our new home being built. That helps.

Merry Christmas everyone!!!:)

Marnie,
We put our messiest son in a bedroom that is in an- out of the way area of the house. Luckily for me, it's out of sight, out of mind.

Oh yes, I can remember my teen years and the clothing piles from outfits that did not look good on me- that particular morning! HA!

In my house the boy's rooms have degrees of dirty and clean. When I ask if their room is clean, their reply is usually.... "Your clean mom or our clean?" Their clean is everything shoved under the bed, you can walk through without tripping and breaking your neck!

Funny, my oldest sister had teenagers while my kids were little and she always told me the house gets messier with teens. I thought she was full of beans! Boy did I find out how right she was}(
