What's the BEST book you ever read?

What sort of thing do you like? I'm a big-time reader and have a top 10 list in the mystery category, romance, chick lit, general fiction, romantic suspense, you name it!

Jes, it all depends on your age, your interests, your time in life. Your question is too hard. I'd love to say Nicholas Sparks. But if I was younger, why couldn't Charlotte's Web fit the bill?

Oooooh, Nicholas Sparks is so yummy...his books aren't bad either;-). The Notebook was a good read. The lovemakeing scene literally made me weep.

Well Jes, I don't know if it's the BEST book I've ever read, but it's still my favorite - Watership Down. It took me three attempts to get into it, but I've read it a couple times and just love it.

I really like To Kill a Mockingbird too. That one can be read in like, 6 hours.

Maybe not the best but a great read...Suzanes Diary For Nicholas By James PAtterson. Very touching story! I also like most of Nicholas Sparks books and Mary Higgins Clark.

Books! One of my favorite subjects.

If you like the Notebook and Nicholas Sparks you should also try the Locket (series) by Richard Paul Evans. They are a similar and both great. Suzannes Diary for Nicholas is just so sad, with a twist at the end. An unexpected but good book James Patterson.

Some of my very best, all time favorite, can't put it down reads are:
Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon - Woman of the 1940's ends up time travelling back to 16th century Scotland. Great history and adventure and romance all in one.

Anything by Barbara Kingsolver, especially The Bean Trees and (sequal)Pigs in Heaven, and the Poisonwood Bible. The Bean trees is about a young (teenage) girl that leaves her home in rural Kentucky before she gets pregnant and stuck there. The Poisonwood Bible is about a missionary family that moved from Georgia to the Congo in the 1960's. The story is told by the daughter if the missionary. It's an epic read.

The Ladies Detective Agency (series) by Alexander McCall Smith. This one is about a very strong, smart, and inspiring lady who finds things out for people through her "Ladies Detective Agency". It is set in Botzwana which adds that great *sense of place* appeal.

Anne Tyler, and Maeve Binchy are great too. I could go on forever, but these are some of my favorites.

If you like mystery books, Michael Connelly is tops and for adventure books, I am really liking Clive Cussler (Think of the movie Sahara)

The Last Juror... great story, had everything, mystery, history, romance, the best of John Grisham's books, My husband even loved it and he hated John Grisham's other books!

The Bone people, by Keri Hulme.

The Time Traveller's Wife, by Audrey Niffenegger

Girl with a Pearl Earring, by Tracy Chevalier

That should do for starters

Clare

I know This Much is True & She's Come Undone - Wally Lamb
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

Debbie

James PAtterson's "Sam's Letters to Jennifer" is also a suprising good and short read.

Mar

I love classic literature, so my best read would be "War and Peace". Close second is Edith Wharton's "Age of Innocence".

Just finished reading all if Grisham's stuff. That was a good one. I enjoyed some more than others, but it's light reading and i had just finished 2 HUGE fantasy series, so these were nice and short.
