Whatever happened to burning your bras????

I've been sick and have had more time to mull stuff over... and post! Remember way back when in the 70's when women were encouraged to "burn your bras?" (Even if you weren't born yet, you must of read about it)
Well, I thought about it because I watched this old movie, Foul Play, made in the 70's with Goldie Hawn. The lead character (ms. Hawn) appeared to be braless the entire film and... why not? It struck me because you never see actresses appearing that way today (who are of say, modest, size). I feel like we've gone back to the 50s. Look at the ads for bras! That ridiculous IPEX bra commercial (no offense to anyone who had a hand in making it), Wonderbra, etc.
I was inspired and have been going braless under my sweaters the last couple days... feel great! Think I can start a new revolution? Are we ready to burn 'em again???

This is the Yankee in me. My first thought was, "Burn them?! I paid good money for those things!" :D

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow - what a ride!’ — Peter Sage

Well, delfin, I was around during that time and I regret to inform you that we ALL went braless, even those who weren't of modest size! It was not pretty. I wouldn't go back to those days for all the chocolate in Belgium.

even truffles????

The thought of going out without a bra on gives me a full body cringe! I went on a ski weekend last year with some old girlfriends and someone broke out the camera for a group shot early in the a.m., I was wearing a tank top and no bra. Suffice it to say that will NEVER happen again! I looked at the picture and was shocked, YIKES, when did gravity do THAT!!!! Okay now I've got that song stuck in my head....."Do your boobs hang low, do they wobble to and fro"......:+

Laurie:)

Um, not a chance. I have the most saggy boobs, and in a matter of only weeks going braless I would be stepping on them. Ouch! :+

but I don't much care for the Ipex commercials, either. I never look like they do when I wear them. x(

Missy

Nope, delfin, I'm with Missy and Laurie. Not even truffles would do it for me! Not even a seat next to George Clooney at the Oscars! I mean NOTHING. :+

Did you know going braless contributes to sagging boobs? Wearing a bra also helps fight against stretch marks.

I'm keeping mine on during the day!!!

I think between 1976 and 1979, I went braless most of the time. I had to buy a bra when I started working as a teaching assistant (I felt a bit uncomfortable at the head of the class going braless).

Of course, back then, things were higher than they are today! Ah, the effects of gravity!

I've never gone braless and still have saggy boobs. Can't imagine they could hang any lower. Ah, the pull of gravity.

Jeanette

For 51 years of age, mine are not all that saggy. I'll count myself lucky and keep doing that incline chest work.

Making me laugh again Laurie!!! "can you tie them in a knot"....not likely!!! I can't burn mine....I NEED the padding...:)...Carole

I honestly don't need one unless I'm wearing a thin or fitted top. Calling me "small" is being generous. So quite often, I enjoy bralessness - a distinct advantage of my phyisiology.

Nope, no way. Not that I wouldn't mind a return to a more liberal feminist presence, I just don't think embarrassing anatomical displays are necessary for equal rights. :)

I'd love to go braless but, not a good look for me (nippage!).
I vote for more comfy bras. Where are they?
All my bras are burn worthy because of the discomfort factor. Except my sports bras. I'd love to wear those all the time, but being a barely B size, the uni-boob squish/smash factor does nothing for me in everyday clothes.

I did find a great sports bra at wal-mart. The danskin one with the molded cups. You can wear that one with everyday clothes and appear to have 2 boobs, but it doesn't have the comfort of a years old worn-out uni-boob squish/smash sports bra.

There is no way on earth you would ever catch me out and about braless...OMG the children would run screaming    . I was a DD/almost E a year ago before I lost a bunch of weight...I'm happy to report I lost a lot in my chest (now a solid B cup) but boy have they completely deflated!! A bra is a necessity now unfortunately.

In defense of the Ipex...I replaced all of my bras recently with the Ipex and I have to tell you that is the most comfy bra I've ever had...hands down!!! Love it!! I don't have the most recent version though that's being advertised right now...I got the "older" version.

Deni: I do have the new version. I could only afford one it looks like a batman contraption but it is most comfortable I love it. When the saleswoman approached me to try it on I was a bit skeptical because I like lace and design this was just like a rubber suit I thought what the heck it is #1 for something let me see what. It is all a smooth soft material and conforms to your body very nicely no lines. I so wish I could just buy it all. But I need to save for the rest of my Cathe dvd's only need a couple.

Mine don't look like a batman contraption. There just nice simple smooth fitting bras...I guess I need to go check out the new one...sounds quite interesting! I love the thing...I swear I don't even feel like I have a bra on. I need another one but I need to save up for it...I just spent my surplus on a new pair of shoes :D .
