What will you cook for the 4th?

Just curious what you ladies are cooking up this 4th. I will have chicken cooked on the grill, which my DH will be doing. And of course I will be making the sides.

Come on ladies and share your meals so we can start lickin our chops!!!!!!!

Well, we are building a deck this weekend and we hope to have it done in time for grilling out on the 4th. We don't even have a grill yet! DH says we'll buy one when the deck is officially complete. Soooo... if it is all done in time, I'm sure he'll be grilling burgers, but I'll be having a veggie burger and veggie kabobs. And probably some coleslaw or potato salad too. :9

I'll be cooking from now until the weekend as we have FOUR picnics. Should be a blast. I am making chocolate chip cookies for my sister's picnic, and bringing watermelon for me :), baked beans from scratch for my aunt's BBQ, ratatouille for in-laws and goat cheese, sundried tomato dip with veggies for my friend's. Good thing I like cooking....

My goal this weekend will be to enjoy the real food but avoid the processed chips, fritos, nachos etc.

I am not sure what everyone is bringing yet but here is a partial list of goodies: hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, a fruit tray we are making with watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, fresh pineapple, mandrian oranges, and some fruit dip. Macaroin salad, black beans, baked beans, potato chips, chips and salsa, brownies, cake in ice cream cones for the kids with icing and sprinkles. That is what I know so far. I am making myself very hungry!:9 :p

I'm making fruit salad (which I'll be eating a lot of), & macaroni salad. I'll make some brown rice for myself.
I cannot get over how much watermelon fills me up! I'll go in the fridge for something and grab a few pieces of it and I'm full.

It seems to get easier eating on holidays I think. You're taking care and working out so much that you don't want eat bad stuff. At least for me I'm finding that out.

Well happy cooking all & keep it healthy!:D

Kali, I agree, it is easier to eat healthy these days. Plus when I am tempted to overindulge I plan to think of y'all and be motivated to move on to the fruits and veggies!!

:D

I am planning to grill burguers, turkey, for me and beef sirloin for the rest of the family, baked potatoe chips a big green ceasar salad, and something I am going to try for the first time, cut a whole matermelon in half, scoop up the fruit and use the water mellon shell as a bowl, and add straberries, pineapple, kiwis, blue berries, honey due, mandarins, I am having my debate on using some fat free whip cream or yogurt or maybe none and of course lots of Jell-o, sugar free.

The older I get the more I love me.

Norma that sounds good!

As far as me cooking..HAHAHAHAHA I rarely cook anything besides chicken and sweet potatos. Since I live alone cooking is not high on my priority list. Plus I don't enjoy it. WHen I see a good recipe I call someone and say hey make this. Someone here had a lowfat banana bread recipe and I sent it to my mom and she made it. She however has slacked in her cooking as it was horrible. Then I had her make the peanut brittle recipe from here and once again it didn't turn out. I think her cooking skills have gone now that she is 70. I never told her I didn't like them. So I may break down go to the store to get the stuff for the peanut butter muffins and make those myself. I hate cooking but I want those this weekend and I want them to have taste so I have to do it myself! Wish me luck:)

Yuck! Moving. Clare. Have fun. Cut up some watermelon, freeze some grapes, slice some cucumbers etc. That way you'll have some refreshing snacks on a hot day. I'm sure you already know that, but you probably have enough to do & think about as it is.

Marla:)
