What weight to start with for Slow and Heavy Series

I have never done any Cathe weight videos (just cardio). I watched the Chest and Back from Slow and Heavy this morning on FitTV and am going to try this workout on Monday.

I have a question about the weight of dbs that I should start with. I have been lifting weights at the gym on nautilus machines, but nothing major. I was thinking about maybe starting with half of what Cathe uses. Does this sound like a good ballpark for a first timer?

Obviously everyone is different, but I was wondering what you all used the first time you started.

Thanks

That's an interesting question, especially since you are used to using Nautilus equipment, which doesn't replicate free-weight trainiing very well. I started doing S&H after doing Cathe's other weight workouts, so pretty much had a good idea of what weight I usually used in relation to what Cathe used (sometimes more, sometimes less, sometimes the same).

Definitely think of your first workout of each one as a test period. Do the first set with a lighter weight than you think you might use (maybe 1/2-3/4 of what you use on machnes, since you would have the benefit-or disadvantage, of the machine doing a lot of the stabilizing). This may seem very low, but it's a safe approach.

Then, you can go up or down on the second and third sets, depending on how the first set went.
