What supplements do you take?

Apart from the odd Vit C I take in the winter, I normally dont take anything extra.

Now that Im getting more serious with my training though, especially weight training, I was wondering if any of you guys and gals complemented your normal diet, with other alternative or conventional supplements. This can be in the form of tablet or liquid.

:)

I just take a multivitamin/mineral supplement. I never get sick, and if I do...it's very mild and short-lived.

Protein, protein, protein (bars, powders, smoothies, ready-to-drink shakes).

I've also been taking the following lately:
Ambrotose AO (antioxidants) and Catalyst from Mannatech. It may be just my imagination, but I seem to feel a little better since taking them (more energy, less depression).

I typically take 2 calcium chews per day too.

I take a multivitamin(One A Day) and whey protein powder every day. I usually only make one protein shake per day with the powder. I use it as a recovery drink after my workouts. I mix it with skim milk to get an extra 30 grams of protein a day.

Aila:)

Iron-Tek Essential Amino Complex before and after a workout, Designer Whey protein and when I can remember, calcium chews. I gotta get a multi-vitamin.

Hi Shonie -
Where do you purchase the Ambrotose AO and Catalyst from Mannatech? Do they have websites? I'm 42 - energy's lagging and I have SAD and hormonally induced "blues" so your supplements sound like they might be worth a try for me. Thanks for any info.

I take a powder multi-vitamin called All-One and I love it....one heaping tablespoon is the equivilent of taking 15-20 pills!! I just add it to a few ounces of orange juice. I also take at the minimum 3000 mg of Vitamin C- I take that in powder form as well and make sure it is an ester C as that is much gentler on the stomach. I take a lot more when I feel something coming on. I take probiotics to help make sure that all the other supplements I'm taking are properly assimilated in my body.

I use Designer Whey and usually make a shake with soy/rice milk or I add a scoop to my oatmeal in the morning.

Have a great day!!

In addition to the vitamins, I take a fiber supplement every morning. I get it from Drnatura.com (catchy name, eh?) and it's excellent. Much less expensive than Metamusil and Fiber-con. I just mix it with a glass of soy milk and a couple tablespoons of Ovaltine for flavor.

What kind of protein powder/shakes and bars do you use? I have tried several in the past and just cannot find one that is good.

Has anyone tried Lean Source? I may have to go to GNC this week and see what they have again. I used to have a gold card and would go there on a monthly basis and pick stuff up.

Any suggestions on cheaper places to buy stuff?

THanks
Rhonda

Hi Rhonda,

I have never tried Lean Source. I use Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein Powder. I think it tastes pretty good compared to others I have tried. The best price that I have found is at www.bodyconcept.com. I have tried all of the flavors and they are all good IMO.

I drink a chocolate Metrx shake for lunch everyday for the past 12 years. I also take a Flaxseed oil (EFA's) capsule every day. I will occasionally have a OneWay bar or Detour bar made by Next Proteins. They taste really good. All the other bars taste like chalk especially the Metrx bars (YUCK). I also eat 1 cup of Fiber One cereal every morning for regularity. Sorry to be so graphic.

I use L-Glutamine for muscle recovery and immune system. I use Myoplex Lite for breakfast.
I also use flaxseed, and an occasional snickers marathon protein bar.

I took creatine for a while but I didn't take it long enough to see the effects.

Hi Kim -

I ended up getting my products from a friend who happened to be one of their "associates". I'm not a MLM (multi-level-marketing) type, so at first I didn't want to hear about their products. My friend let me try the antioxidant (Ambrotose AO) for free and I really did seem to feel a difference. So, I signed up for the products but don't participate in the business side of the company. You can go to www.mannatech.com and take a look at their products and, I believe, order off the web site.

Good luck.

Best and least expensive "supplements."

There is no substitute for real, organic, raw, unprocessed food for nutritional supplementation. The best of the best is green smoothies. Look on YouTube for the Boutenko family (Raw Family) Victoria Boutenko, Valya Boutenko, Sergei Boutenko. VERY interesting, very effective. Victoria's book "Green For Life" is absolutely awesome!
No pills,
No potions,
No disgusting concoctions,
Just a delicious milkshake-type drink once a day (NO MILK THOUGH!!)

I have been taking Vitamin D3 for about a year now based on my doctor finding me deficient, and I have to say it has had a huge impact on evening out and increasing my energy.

I also supplement omegas and niacin on her orders, since I have somewhat high cholesterol.

Like most folks I order these online, since it is much cheaper than retail prices and lots of places even do free shipping.
