What supplements are you on?

Hi! I just posted this thread on "ask Cathe forum" by accident, so I'll repost it here where it was ment to be.

I'm curious to see what supplements that y'all are taking and why. All of you are such fitness/health enthusiast that I love reading what y'all do.

I've started to take an omega-3 complex (omega-3 *Flax*Borage) in the morning along with Zinc. I did a lot of reading on omega-3s and the typical American diet has almost none. And omega-3s are essential. I take Zinc because it's very good for the immune system and promotes healing. Also good for ance and other skin conditions, which I have a problem with. I take L-glutamine (an amino acid) after a workout which helps with muscle growth/maintance. Some here may take protein shakes. And a Flax gel cap at bedtime, which is another form of omega-3s. I need to take a mult-vit but keep forgeting to pick a bottle up a the store.

What I take...

A multi vitamin supplement- because my diet is good but not THAT good.

Glucosamine/Chondroitin- because I have joint issues and I find that it really helps keep me limber and loose.

Co-Enzyme Q-10- found in cardiac tissue and brain tissue. Excellent anti-oxidant. Supports the production of energy.

B-vitamin supplement- for extra energy.

Omega 3 and Flax seed supplement- lacking in my diet (I eat so little fish). Helps support good cardiac function.

I take:
multivitamin
omega-3 (omega zen: from an algae)
vitamin e and alpha-lipoic-acid (antioxidants)
calcium and vitamin D (together)
glucosimine (a vegan formula)

When the antioxidant phase started a few yrs ago I started taking a Multi Vitamin with antioxidants. I take glucosamin/chondroitin also for joint health. I take Omega 3 fish oil or flax oil regularly and also a calcium supplement. ...:)...Carole

I take a multi with iron, and take ground flax seed and good bacteria capsules most days. I use soy protein mixed with soy milk or kefir or juice on strength training days, and put stuff in my food like wheat germ. I also use psyllium seed in water to get extra fiber and fill up between meals when I am keeping calories low.

Hi - I'm a lurker. :) I wanted to chime in and say that I used to take a multi vitamin until I entered in what I ate into fitday.com every day for two weeks. I realized that I actually get more than the RDA of almost every major vitamin and mineral - I was really surprised! The only thing I don't get enough of from my diet is calcium - another surprise since I eat lots of cheese and leafy greens. So I started eating those Vivactiv calcium chews...they are so addictive! I realize that many of you are taking supplements to get more than the RDA on purpose, but for those of you who aren't, you may be surprised by how vitamin-and-mineral-rich your diets are!

I take 1 a day for active woman vitamins. I've got a lot of energy. NOt sure if that's why...

I actually found when I did fit day that I DID need the vitamine.. good for you that you didn't

I take OJ with calcium. That helps me with the calcium

That's just too funny with fitday. I was under the impression that I was eating very well and healthy, still at the end of the day I was short of some vitamins and minerals.
here we go:

Glucosamine & chondroitin
ginger
turmeric
EPA and flaxseed
guan jie yan wan (Chinese herbs for joint inflammation)
SAME

all of the above for joint support

Solgar multivitamin and antioxidants
coral calcium
L carnitine
CQ 10

Honestly, I don't know if they are doing me any good. I may just have a very expensive pee...
:)

I take a OneADay weightsmart, I take fiberchoice, and I take Viativ Calcium chews, I heard calcium fights fat..... I heard that calcium how do I say this, counteracts a cortisol hormone, so ..... I decided that was what I needed, I need calcium anyway...... Rhonda :7

I take
a multi
2 garlic tabs a day- the Kyolic kind which don't smell
2 coral calcium
vitamin c(since I drink coffee- I need to replenish what I lost)
creatine
I found this to be the best for my overall health- it keeps the yuckies away.....in fact when I'm sick I up my garlic and c and if I have something that needs healed I take an e. I used to only take a multi but I became sick more often- now I'm pretty healthy and my husband is on the same thing- we feel better, have more energy and are happy with the results.
not enough people take garlic...I swear it's a wonder herb!!

CoQ10
Ferrous Sulfate
Dong Quai
B multi
Cal Mag
MSM
Psyllium
2 tablespoons of flax oil (I heard if you take capsules, you'd need 27 per day!)

Gotta check out the garlic pills.

Multivitamin

Glucosamine chondriotin for disc problems in my back

Antioxidants, also for my back (chiropractor recommended them - can't hurt, might help and they're pretty cheap)

Calcium as needed - I try to get most of my calcium through food but add in 400mg caplets daily as needed
