Okay, I'm back with a little more about my second visit to my nutrition consultant. (It's been such a busy week, I didn't have time to continue this till now). This is from the materials she gave me:
-Just 20 mins, 2 or 3 times a week, of strength training can increase your energy and endurance, metabolism and stamina. A study from Tufts University shows that 12 weeks of strength training boosts your metabolism enough so you can eat an extra 300 calories per day without gaining weight.
-When you're feeling depressed, anxious or angry, exercise can make you feel better. Even 8-10 mins. of strenuous exercise can dramatically reduce negative feelings through release of endorphins.
-Researchers don't know why, but exercise enhances sexuality.
-Sustained exercise seems to be a key to cancer prevention. Scientists don't know how it works, but suspect that it may boost the immune system's ability to detect and kill cancer cells.
-Gentle exercise does more for arthritic joints then bed rest. Strength training keeps joints mobile and helps by building muscle.
-"As we grow older, our bodies manufacture less human growth hormone (hGH), a substance that improves our immune system, builds up muscles, burns fat and contributes to our general feeling of well-being. By age 70, growth hormone levels have decreased by 40%, resulting in a 30% reduction in strength, according to Ronald Klatz, M.D., and Robert Goldman, M.D.,authors of 'Stopping the Clock'...Exercise-especially lower-body workouts with weights-can stave off age-related declines by stimulating the production of hGH".
-Men and women who do aerobic activity and walk briskly at least 6 blocks per day have fewer sleep problems than more sedentary people.
Wow! I'm off to the gym!! :7
