What is proper etiquette?

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm wondering if I am unaware of proper protocol or forum etiquette. You guys are so friendly to each other and even know each other by name. I've been posting here for a while every now & then, but I feel like an outsider to you guys. Ever since the count down to getting our new Hardcore series I can't seem to stay off the forums. So I notice how everyone really likes to hear from each other, even just a quick HI!

I don't post anywhere else so if there are certain rules or if I have offended anyone I apologize & would like to get tips for posting.

Now I apologize for whining. Maybe its the start of the Holiday blues or something.

Hi,Marla!
I'm sure you haven't offended anyone (if you had, believe me, someone would have said something!). It's just hard when you are a fairly new member to a board where many people "know" each other to feel like part of the group.

It's not that anyone is intentionally shunning you as an "outsider," but we have grown to know each other through our posts, and may tend to respond to others that we "know."

Any particular posts of yours that you felt were ignored? I don't see anything annoying (like writing in ALL CAPS, or no caps or being rude, etc. ) in your post that would make you be ignored.

On some forums, like www.videofitness.com , there are sub-forums with check-ins for specific purposes, where forum members can get to know each other in smaller groups. There's nothing like that here, but you can always post to threads that interest you and find others who share the same interests.

If you're feeling left out, why not start a thread with an introduction to yoursself? That way, we can get to know you a bit more and you may not feel so left out.

Not to intentionally contradict you, Katherine, but there are a few sub-threads in the Open Discussion forum that are great for getting know people a bit more personally. The daily check-in is terrific! Everyone is welcome. I joined that a few weeks ago, and have since felt much more part of the community than in the two years I've been lurking and sporadically posting on these pages. There's also the Healthy Eating check-in, and the November Rotation check-in.

Don't give up on us yet, Marla! We can be a friendly group, but sometimes you have to be a squeaky wheel. A lot of topics get discussed, and I think sometimes posts get overlooked in all the traffic. I also think that there is a diffusion of responsibility situation that happens sometimes, whereby everyone assumes that "Someone Else" will know the answer to that question, so I don't have to spend the time answering it.

The only etiquette guidelines I'm aware of are to play nice.

I think Katherine's idea is a good one. Tell us a little something about yourself.

Cheers!
Sandra

Thank you guys for taking time out to reply to my post. I recognize both your screen names. I really enjoy your input on alot of these threads and now I check this forum practically everyday. Maybe I will try the Healthy Eating check-in & the next rotation check-in with you guys. Man! I wish would be a Hard Core rotation. I can hardly wait!
Well I'm an RN in Plano, TX, north of Dallas. I have almost all of Cathe's workouts. I liked her so much after the CTX series (which I wish I had on DVD), that I bought the Intensity series next. I fell in love with her style & her level of fitness & had no hesitation about pre-ordering the Body Blast series on DVD as well as her HC series. I don't usually spend a bunch of money on something I've never seen, but I know I won't be disappointed.
Well, thanks again for the replies. I will definitely keep up with ya'll.

Hi Marla,
Welcome to Cathe's forum.
Please do not feel slighted if it seems your posts are ignored.

I personally, don't have time to add to every post (there are tons of them) and there are so many that I do not have anything intelligent to add (not saying that what I DO post is intelligent) and not every one responds to what I have to say...(hey, maybe everybody does hate me...hmmm didn't think about that..LOL) Just kidding.;-) Seriously, this is a big forum.

Some of us are getting together to do the Hardcore series when it is released. Come join us, it will be fun. Like Sandra said, these little groups are another place where we can become better acquainted. There are a few fortunate ones who live fairly close to each other and get to visit LIVE and some others have been to see the Cathe face-to-face; still others have been on this forum for many years.

Bottom line, it is just the matter of finding something that interests you, jumping in, getting your feet wet and say what you like and etc., etc. This is a great place to meet friends.

Hi Marla,

A very big welcome to the forums:7! I'm pretty new myself and understand a little where you're coming from. I agree with what everyone else has posted, I think you will soon see this is a pretty friendly crowd. I actually lurked around only reading but never participating for a few months.....just started posting a few weeks ago and I've never regretted it or looked back:) :)! I have learned so much and have been so inspired by everyone on these forums! You're more than welcome to join us on the daily check in thread:)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi Marla and welcome,

The Cathe forums are great, everyone here is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Don't be afraid to join in on the fun...

Hi Marla! Well it sounds like you are already a bona fide Catheite with the workouts you have! It's great that you are posting and we are all happy to have you here! Happy Thanksgiving! :) :)

Hi Marla,

You are certainly welcome here! I understand how it feels though. For a long time I felt out of the loop...sometimes I still do, but then I remind myself to just jump in with both feet!;-)
The person who helped me & made me feel welcome when I first came here was Debbie H. What a great lady!

Anyway, it really is hard to respond to every post you see, even if you want to. I have to plow through & post here & there, and it still can take a couple of hours or more. Of course I enjoy it every minute, but I figured I should probably sleep at some point! LOL

Welcome to this wonderful forum, I'm sure you'll be a great addition to our "family".

Ruth:) :) :)

Hi Marla - I know how you feel. Back when Trevor started the thread about going out to vote, I put some opinions in there that made me afraid that I had offended. I kept checking back to make sure no one called me a blankety-blank.

Sometimes you just post a topic that sparks people's interest, and other times....well...it falls flat.

This is the only place I post, too. I have posted on Parentcenter.com when I need answers to specific child issues, but the funny thing is...I get much quicker responses to those kind of questions here! Also cooking advice. I'm a lousy cook and since my mother died - I have no one to ask for advice. But there are some ladies here that seem to know their way around the kitchen.

Ruth, thank you for the sweet post! :) Marla, please don't feel you have offeneded. Not at all. It's funny, there are soo many posts I WANT to respond to especially when I see someone new here. I just don't have the time like I used to. (You'd never know that by my total posts, eh??) Just hang with us a bit longer and before long, we will get to know you! :7 We are thrilled to have you here and look forward to getting to know you better. WELCOME!

Just wanted to say hello and welcome!! :) Everyone's welcome...just jump on in! :p

Debbie! You're over 4000 posts now!!!! Woo-Hoo!

Hi Marla!

I'm so glad you asked this question too! I've often felt the same way you do. I just discovered Cathy early this year and I'm hooked. I would poke around the forums and just read for many months, then I finally got the nerve to start posting. This is the first forum I've ever read or participated in and it's been a great experience. I'm an "outsider" too and always wondered if I was doing it right!

I'm happy to see all the positive replies you've received. Makes me feel welcome too. Maybe you should start an "Introduce Yourself" thread if it hasn't been done. I would enjoy getting to know everyone better too. Well, I will always remember you Marla, as you were kind enough to reply to one of my posts. Thanks!

Nicole :)
