What is considered "active recovery"?

Cathe, can you provide some direction as to what kind of activity (and how much) we should be doing during our active recovery weeks? In looking through posts, some people seem to be doing as much, or more exercise than they do during a meso cycle! So I was wondering what kinds of activities we should be doing - and how often? Any help you can provide would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Not Cathe but I can share what I did for active recovery; basically I just took lots of walks, did some Yoga, and very light cardio 4 days. I made the mistake of going all-out between Mesos 1 & 2, doing 5 days of cardio like IMAX which was not a good idea; it sidelined me the week I was supposed to start Meso 2 so I wound up having to take a recovery week instead of starting the program.

When I followed the lighter cardio/Yoga before Meso 3, towards the end of the week I was excited to start working with STS again and didn't notice any loss in strength. The rests are there for a reason so take advantage!

i totally agree w/melissa. i've done STS twice and you really need those rest weeks, especially before meso 3.

Thanks for making this thread and for the replies people have provided! I am doing my active recovery week - this is my third time through with STS and this time I am really trying to actually have an active recovery week. I bought a strong Knee dvd and barefoot cardio by Ellen Barrett and have been doing these workouts, along with a lot of walking. It is hard because I really miss my endorphin-producing Cathe workouts, but I am resisting (I am only on day 3 of the week). I think I will be chomping at the bit to start up with STS and SC and Cathe by the time next week comes along.

Looking forward to hearing what Cathe has to say about active recovery, too.
