What does your gym membership cost?

Yikes... I'm paying alot!!!

Our membership fee was 200.00, and per month, for our family, its 135.00/month. Granted, it sets the gold standard for a gym/fitness center and we get discounted rates on swimming lessons for our son, etc. but I totally know its off the charts expensive.

Because it is so much money, I do feel the need to go at least 5x/week, so I feel like I get my money's worth. And, I'm with Nancy, on the proximity thing: its 2 miles from my house.

PS.... I live in Southwest Michigan, so we're not even talking east or west coast cost of living!! :)

PPS.. This is why I can't justify STS, even though I really really want it!!

Lynn, do you belong to the MAC? I used to belong to the one in mid-Michigan, but couldn't justify the cost when I was only going once or twice a week. That place is expensive, but it's also really, really nice.

Could you

just get a piece of equipment like a treadmill or a spin bike for at home or are you out of space?

I second the suggestion for a Fitness 19 or how about the Y? I don't mean to be cheap, but yikes thats a lot of dough!

It's not so high. I pay $79 a month in the NJ suburbs of NYC. It's def. dependent on where you live--when I lived in southern VA I paid about $40.

However, I will suggest you get them to waive that initiation fee. That "initiation fee" just burns me up! When I first joined a gym there was no such thing, & there's no way I'd pay that kind of $$ for them to "process" my application. WTH does that mean anyway? That I'm paying you to input my info into a computer?

Sorry for my little rant LOL, it's just a pet peeve of mine. Tell them you can join X club w/no sign up fee & I bet they'll waive it. I've belonged to I don't know how many clubs in the last 20 years & I never once paid that stupid fee. ;)

Hi Anne-

Actually, its the sister gym to the MAC... its the BAC in Kalamazoo. (Bronson Athletic Club) From what I understand, its owned and operated by the same management as the MAC. Small world, huh? :)

We actually have the head trainer, Chris Johnson from the MAC, that comes once a week to work the PT's at our location. Do you know him? If so, what do you think of his advice/fitness knowledge? He wrote some nutrition books and does seminars.. he's going to do one in January here in Kalamazoo that I'm thinking of attending, but haven't signed up yet.
