What does it mean when your ring turns your skin colors?

A few times in the past couple weeks my wedding ring is turning my finger black. It's real gold, so I know that's not it. I am pretty sure there is a reason my ring has been doing this. Any ideas?

Allergies to the other metals in the gold? I'm sure that you're ring is probably 14K, which gives you about 10K in other metals that they have mixed in with the gold to make it stronger than 24K. More than likely you are allergic to the copper or nickel.

My rings do that during certain times of the month. I have come to believe that it has something to do with the hormones.

My rings do that only certain times of the month too. My doctor tells me it's because of hormone changes also.

Also certain types of infections, such as a cold or flu, or viral.
