What do you wear to work out?

Kinda a silly question, I think, but what does everyone wear to work out? I look like a slob, in an old T-shirt and faded stretch capri's. I'm thinking I should be working out in a cute outfit, like the ones on the DVDs. Does wearing a cool workout outfit psychologically help you work out better????

Delfin :)

A sports bra and my underdrawers. At home, that is! At a gym I'm a little more presentable! I'll wear a Sports-bra-tank-top and capri workout pants.

What I wear does not make any difference in how I feel when I work out.
Just Do It! :)

Hi Delfin! I've been working out for 22 years, have worked out in a gym & now at home. I usually only wear Nike tank tops & bootleg pants in the fall & winter, bras & low rise shorts in spring & summer. Kos USA too I favor. It doesn't make me workout any better or harder I just "feel" better in these types of clothes. Kathy:D

Strange as it seems, I always feel stronger, better, faster if I'm wearing decent workout clothes, instead of slobby stuff. I won't pay TONS because I work out at home and nobody sees but me, my family and my pets, but I do like to look decent. I think if you feel good about how you look, you'll put more effort into staying that way:)

At home I wear little shorts & a bra top. Some of the workout clothes I wear at home literally date back to 1991. They're not fashionable enough to wear to the gym, but they work just fine at home.

To the gym I wear a long bra top (usually One Step Ahead--I love their supplex tops) & either capris or bootleg pants (usually KOS USA). Simple, comfortable, functional & nice looking.

Oh, & the ponytail--standard workout wear at home & at the gym! I see women w/long hair at the gym wearing it down--there's no way you can seriously work out w/hair all over the place. Plus I'd be afraid it'd get caught in a machine or something.

I bought some cute shorts recently but I can't stand wearing them for step or even leg work. They just don't move right with my body. Also the old tee shirts that I wear I end up taking off and just wearing my sports bra because they are long and get in my way!

So....I would think that as long as you feel comfortable and can move freely it shouldn't matter.

What Shelley said! I always feel like I can work out harder when I'm wearing a cute outfit. But I don't buy anything expensive, either - I get a lot of my workout clothes at Target. :)

I have a big mirror that is leftover from a bathroom remodel, so if I am doing any upper body lifting, I splurge for sleeveless. Nothing fancy but no stains or rips. Those get pushed to housecleaning with bleach clothes.

I almost always wear Under Armour pants on the bottom. The stay up and I never get that loosey-goosey crotch that I can't stand.

My workout clothes look similar to what the girls wear in the DVDs (mine are the low budget type!) I have to wear sleeveless tops and shorts because even with a fan going I got sooo hot and sweaty when I work out. It was always my goal to lose the weight and firm up so I COULD wear that kind of stuff - so now I do! And I agree with others who've mentioned it makes the workout better to dress for it.

When I do Cathe workouts at home, I wear a sports bra and (usually ripped) shorts. Even in the dead of winter, my apartment is so overheated that I can't wear anything else and I have to run a fan.

My treadmill is in the basement where it tends to be a bit chilly, so I wear a ratty t-shirt and (I probably shouldn't admit this in public) a cashmere sweater that's so old and beaten up that the sleeves remain connected to the body of the sweater by only a few threads. As soon as I warm up, in about 10 minutes, I am down to the bra and shorts.

For the classes I take at the gym, I wear respectable stuff--capris or yoga pants and a workout shirt of some sort. Nothing ripped or ratty.

Another decent-gear-from-Target girl here. I don't like to work out in an old baggy shirt because the extra fabric gets in the way. I like form-fitting tops (they should cover my stomach) and shorts. In the winter I like workout pants with a semi-flare. I also like the pants a little loose.

KOS-USA yoga pant or their karate kick pant (if I'm in a loose/comfy, but stylish pant mood. lol)

I always wear a sleeveless tank (either KOS or even just an Old Navy tank) over a sports bra, in winter. In summer, I usually just wear a sports bra.

I do make "outfits" though, regardless of what I wear, so everything does color coordinate. :) I just feel more in control and serious about my workout when I also look put together. :p

As for shoes, I'm hooked on my RYKAs! (rec'd to me by some members here and Cathe!)

At home: two sports bras, a t-shirt or tank, and workout shorts. Really cheap. At the gym, the same, except I only wear one bra.

I find it motivating to dress in good workout clothes. I don't pay a fortune. My whole fitness wardrobe comes from Target. But, they have some nice stuff. I generally workout in sports bra and ankle length bottoms. In the summer, I use shorts.

Melissa, LOL!

I don't know how anyone does cardio wearing any kind of pants; I'd go up in flames if you dropped a match on me!

I do find I feel better wearing stuff that's a little nicer, if only because you can see the results of your hard work, you know? What I did was limit myself to two pair of really nice Nike drawstring shorts which I rotate, and a sports bra. I start with a t-shirt which is always off by the end of the warm-up.

Oh, and sometimes when my laundry is challenged, I wear funny socks with cats on them and things. My SO always gives me a look of horror, hehe.

I wear a sports bra and form fitting T, and shorts, year round. They are not so nice looking or new. I truly don't care what I look like at home when I work out. But I do like to see my legs and arms while I'm working out.

At home - I wear a sports bra (which I wouldn't wear alone in public) with a fitted pair of shorts. Some of my shorts are raggedy and some are so short I wouldn't wear them in public either - I usually wear the short ones on leg day.

When I run outdoors I usually wear a fitted top plus fitted shorts. A lot of my nicer workout clothes are also from Target.
