What do you do if you have no appetite?

My mind has been on a lot of things these last 2-3 weeks and it's really affecting my appetite, which is bad since I like to lift heavy, and my performance suffers without enough food. I've been trying to just stay with stuff I like -- soy milk, some oatmeal, fruit. Other than that, I just don't feel like eating. I'm afraid I'm not getting enough calories and protein. How do I get my appetite back?

I understand how you feel. I've been in the same boat at times... hard to feel like eating when you're stressed or upset. Until things get better, have you tried adding a protein drink and/or protein bars? Or better yet, MRP drinks or bars? These nutrient-dense options can help make up for what you're temporarily missing.

I'm sorry Pinky....our minds do sometimes take over...:(...I rarely loose my appetite unless its right after a long run. Maybe try a smoothie with 2 cups of any fruit, 3/4 cup soymilk, a scoop of some Whey or other Protein powder ( I prefer vanilla myself )and I throw in some flaxseed 1T for some fat. I have switched from the Zone to Eat to Live and have lost some weight and feel tons better. Hope this helps a little...:)...Carole

Yes, I'm sure it's just temporary. I would focus on the easily digestible and high nutrient foods like fruit, oatmeal, smoothies, yogurt, whole grain toast with a nut butter and some jam. Don't worry too much about it.

You'll most likely lose some weight. Unless you are underweight, No big! I bet you'll make up for it down the road. I love Summer. It's has been in the upper 80's here and humid, I haven't had an appetite in 3 days. Can't complain.

As Mogambo says, don't sweat it, loss of appetite an happen, its just a temporary glitch, it happens to me frequently, always in summer on hot humid days like right now, so yesterday all I had to eat all day, twice, was fruit (bananas, nectarines and cherries) and a big glass of ice cold 2% chocolate milk (not store pre-prepared). I am just fine, this covers several nutritional bases and your body won't let you starve. When you push it on your next workout, your body will be aching with hunger afterwards.

I went through a pretty drastic loss of appetite last year due to a side effect of some medication I was taking, I lost 10 lbs that I didn't need to lose, in a month. Scary. My chiropractor was very helpful and suggested that in order to keep energized for workouts and to keep from losing more weight (odd situation to find yourself in after years of focusing on not gaining weight) or worse muscle mass, I rely on protein shakes and healthy snacky foods - like baked tortilla chips with some really healthy salsa (to get veggies in) or V8 drinks, non fat or soy yogurts, unsweetened applesauce...oatmeal...things like that. Its hard when you don't want to eat but you need to fuel yourself. I got myself through it by snacking on power foods and drinking daily protein drinks (Myoplex shakes). My appetite is back in full force by the way.

You'll find a solution that works for you, just make sure you focus on protein and get your vitamins in!!
