What do you do during your rest weeks?

Hi everyone,

I'm finishing up my sixth week of a GS rotation -- and I'm feeling terribly tired and possibly like I've been overtraining! The other day, I realized that I haven't taken a recovery week off at all since the fall, so I'm thinking that I'll take a rest week next week.

What do you all do during your rest weeks to recuperate? Do you only do cardio and yoga? Do you take a whole week?

I thought I would focus on easy cardio, and just enjoy the time off so I can re-energize! :)

I like the recovery weeks from P90X. Core Synergstics, YogaX (or other yoga), and I like to do some cardio (and swimming!) also but no heavy lifting.

It sounds like you need a rest week, so enjoy it!!

Hi,

I'm getting ready to take a recovery week after several weeks of heavy weight training. I think I'll probably do ME once (light) and then cardio and yoga of choice almost daily. I think it depends on 'how' you feel tired. If you are overall just worn out then go easy on everything. Maybe a few days of no workouts. I don't feel overly stressed, but I think my muscles need a recovery week. So I'll do what ever intensity cardio I'm in the mood for. I probably will take a full week just because of my work schedule and planning my workouts.

Leanne, take a rest week with me this week!:7 I wish we lived closer, we could go out and walk together in that beautiful SD sunshine!

I personally am "going by how I feel" this week. I stated I was going to do a cardio only week, but that might change depending on how my body feels, I may toss in some Lotte Berk, Squeeze or Pilates (yawn) workout...I have to work my abs at least twice, thats just the way I am, and do a few butt squeezes, but will leave the heavy weights alone, and take one or more complete rest days this week. I want to also focus on stretching alot...I hate yoga, so that is out...might do some Tai Chi...I used to be an assistant Tai Chi teacher actually....get my body and mind in a good place before I start hitting it hard again.

I think its good for your body, rest is so underrated...and I know that both you and I deserve a break! :7

I'll take a couple of days of doing absolutely nothing, and then will do yoga and light cardio.

I usually wind up doing nothing and griping about it, since lately my "rest weeks" are to recover from some annoying injury. I've never actually taken one just because I want to. :p

I have never ever taken a rest week. With the exception of the birth of my two boys via c-section - I took two weeks off and then I was walking several miles a day. Lately I have felt very tired like I need to just chill out. I am working on my NASM certification and I feel like I have worked out just reading their text book. This may be the month I actually tackle rest...

Thanks for all the great ideas, everyone! It sounds like we all need a rest!:) I'll probably just do some light cardio and yoga, but think that I won't tackle anything too strenuous!
