What do you do about . . .?

OK Experts! I am sure this has been answered many times before, too, so I am sure I will get a good answer.

Yesterday, I was holding my arms up in front of the mirror - facing forward with elbows bent - and noticed some loose skin hanging down. Now I do the bicep and tricep work all the time. Love doing it. And my triceps are fairly well toned so that's not the problem. It's the skin under the arm. So is there anything to be done about that or is this like the pooch in the lower stomach that just takes time or am I stuck with it. I also notice more of the left than on the right. Any help would be really appreciated!

That's another one of those genetics questions..........also depends on your age. At some point your skin looses its elasticity, so even if you have the buffest tris in the world you might still have the batwings. In which case surgery is the only cure as far as I know.

If you're still young (which is a relative term that I won't even attempt to define), then you're looking at getting rid of excess fat. In which case diet & cardio is your answer, since you're already doing the muscle toning.

It sounds like you are doing all that you can which is wonderful, so as I say, 'you may as well learn to love it, it's paid for:) ;-)'
I was overweight until I was in my 30's and have been pursuing fitness for over 10 years and fancy myself to be in pretty darn good shape but that aforementioned pooch and the dangly bit under the arms are constant reminders of how far I've come.
The best advise I can give is to NEVER hold your arms up while standing in front of a mirror facing forward with elbows bent.;-)

Hey Laurie,

That is excellent advice and I will take it here on out. :D I was just thinking the other day how good my arms were looking when I did the thing in the mirror. I was like "Great! Flapping arms!" Well, I've never had much weight to loose - just lost 15 lbs. and have at least 5 more I'd like to lose - so it must be age related. :( Man, I hate to admit to that! Oh well, time marches on and doesn't leave many survivors. Guess I'll settle for - what was it? Batwings?! Great term! :p

Laurie!

I loved your advice, such sparkling wit is just an added bonus to reading & enjoying this site!

Hi,

I have heard that skin brushing can firm the skin.
You should use a dry natural bristle brush on dry skin.
Do not use much pressure with the brush at first.

I didn't have the "wings" for so long, I thought I would never get 'em. Then this year, when I turned 48, there they were. :-( Mine are relatively small though, and not noticeable except in certain positions, like the position you described. Sooner or later I think most women get 'em. Do what I do: just compare yourself to others your age who look worse. :+
