What do people who don't exercise do

with all their extra time? I took an off week starting last Wednesday & I've felt kind of lost--I can't believe how much time I have on my hands! I can sleep late, I can go home right after work, I'm not exhausted on weekend afternoons after working out for 2 hours in the morning, I have plenty of time to run errands, spend time w/friends & family, get work done around the house, etc.....

Is this what life is like for normal people? :p

My DH who rarely exercises watches TV(lots of poker) and plays on-line games, or naps. Now that it is nice, he will be doing more outside work, which is exercise, so that is good. Each year he finds that more difficult because he is so out of shape!

Sometimes my rest days are hard to take because I get bored!! I have this 1-2 hour time frame where I have to find something else to do cause I'm not exercising! LOL

Laura,
I'm right with you on this one! I have recently developed severe tendonitus in my knees and haven't been able to work out much. Now I have so much time to do things! I am able to go straight home after work, I can get my grocery shopping and laundry done without rushing around and I can sleep late too! It's amazing. But after a while, I start to go a little nutty from not having that "me" time to workout (plus, I have to admit, I actually start to miss Cathe a little!) haha.

Well, I'm not a big TV person so I find that when I am not exercising (off day or off hour, lol), I read a lot and/or waste time ONLINE!

:)

Laura, I'm so sorry you didn't get into the RT! I know you were really looking forward to it. :(

I think they mostly watch TV. I heard recently that the average number of hours Americans watch TV per week = 29. I can hardly even fathom that! 29 hours watching TV. Yikes!

I take two rest days a week and I don't get bored. I read, work in the yard, clean, shop for my groceries. I always have stuff I can stick in that time slot!

I am the QUEEN of finding things to do instead of exercise:eek: :p :7 -- but I'm sure you knew that:D . Right now I'm learning Italian, or trying to anyway. I should be doing c...c...cardio.

Over the past month, I've managed to get up an hour earlier and actually become *GASP* a morning exerciser!

In the evenings I have more time to run errands, get a little more done around the house, play with the dog, etc. I do, however, find myself going to bed earlier as well.

With my extra exercise time I should be doing fun household tasks like washing walls and window. I tell myself they are fun, but never seem to get the bucket and scrubber out. With my extra time I find myself reading and doing crossword puzzles. I would go to bed earlier if there was not a news fanatic with a TV sharing my room with me.

I'm another morning exerciser, and I have little kids. When I don't exercise, I stay up past midnight and sleep in until the kids start making noise. When I do exercise, I go to bed closer to 11:00 and get up before 7:00.

I don't work out for 2 hours, though. Just one.

But I don't enjoy being "normal". I get sluggish, flabby, and my clothes stop fitting. I'd rather do the "early to bed, early to rise" than be more relaxed and pay for it with a soft, tired physique.

Not all people who don't exercise have all this free time (I know you didn't imply at all but just shedding light). My husband works a full time job and goes to law school four nights a week. He misses working out a lot and only gets to do it on the weekend with me. There just isn't any extra time, aside from sleeping, and he is already somewhat zombie like. I will guess there are others in a similar predicament.

That being said, I am sure there are plenty o' people that do have that extra time. I can't imagine sitting idle. I have no trouble sitting still in any kind of activity after I have gotten in my exercise time. Rest days don't count though ;)

I'm not gaining weight. I'm retaining food.

Sometimes I find myself thinking how nice it would be if I didn't "have" to work out. I'd be able to cook dinner every single night after work! I'd be able to visit more with family! On weekends, I'd be able to actually slow down! Wow!

But I'd also suffer from too much tension and stuff as a result of sitting all day in front of a computer... so I'll take life like it is, busy, busy, busy.

On my days off I clean the house and do laundry. Things I don't feel like doing after a workout because if it's an intense workout, I usually don't have the energy. I agree with the above poster who mentioned that not everyone who doesn't exercise has plenty of free time. My DH is one person who never has a minute to himself. He doesn't complain about it, but he's not one to sit around and watch TV. On the rare occasion his butt ever hits the couch, he falls asleep from sheer exhaustion.

Well, that wasn't really the point--it wasn't about "why don't people make time to exercise" it was more like "what would you do with the extra time if you didn't." Look, I work an average of 60 hours a week (sometimes more, sometimes less) & really struggle to get in my routine, not to mention the day to day living stuff like getting to the grocery store so I can eat. Most weeks I don't get in all the exercise I schedule & plan for but I do the best I can.

This w/e, since I took off from exercise, I found myself doing things I'd been putting off since last summer, like scrubbing the bathroom floor, fixing the rug on the staircase where it was loose, washing down my baseboards. I let a lot of things fall by the wayside that I probably shouldn't just so I can get a cardio workout in here, lifting in there, & then maybe get my 5-6 hours of sleep each night (I get more on the weekends--sometimes even 9 hours in one night!). And yeah, as soon as my butt hits the couch I'm drifting off to sleep. I don't want to--it's "me" time & I want to be awake to enjoy it--but when I feel like I have 10 lb dumbells attached to my eyelids I usually don't make it.

The biggest question mark for me is women who work full time and have kids. How on earth do they do it? I know I'm exhausted--they must live in a walking coma!

Sometimes I feel exactly like that-and it's getting worse as I get older:( I thought it would get better as the kids got older. I manage to workout in the morning before work and can run my kids around after work. As for cooking dinner, usually dh or one of the older boys can get that started. It is possible, but yes we are the walking comatose moms.

I don't feel comatose. I get up at 5 to exercise. This frees me up to be home for dinner, and about half the time DH cooks. Kind of a standing rule, whoever gets home first cooks. DH also shares in running around for activities, but I often do it and use that time to work out that DD is swimming or whatever. He does not work out so finds himself at a loss of what to do while he is in town.

I will admit, I have been one that has always had a lot of energy, even when not getting enough sleep. I cannot sleep past 5 am even on the weekends. On my rest days, I get up, relax, enjoy the quiet and read, or catch up on some of the tV shows I DVR'd.
