What can be seen in a third trimester sono?

LHK

Cathlete
Has anyone ever had a sonogram in the third trimester? I'm having one tomorrow with the purpose of Drs getting another look at the baby's foot. I've told you a while back how I tested + for trisomy 18, but my amnio showed normal boy (Thank God) but that day, the Dr saw a foot deformity. Which was why he encouraged the amnio in the first place. Anyway, I had a followup "foot sono" in Feb to no avail- baby was folded in half, feet by his chin, and they couldn't see the feet.

My question is, can I get my hopes up that we'll see both his feet clearly tomorrow, at 32 weeks? Or are the close quarters probably too tight to see? Are they doing this just to appease me, and I should not count on getting a definitive answer?

Lisa,

I hope you are able to get the answers you're looking for in your upcoming sonogram. When I had my ultrasound last week (29 weeks) I was able to see the feet, but I have been going to the specilist clinic where they have high resolution ultrasounds. They always really focus on my daughters heart so they don't spend too much time on her extremities. With my first pregnancy we were blessed and didn't have any reason for a third trimester ultrasound. I pray all goes well and your little guy shows off his tootsies!

Hi,
I just checked the picture of my daughter's final sonagram. I am trying to caculate the weeks, the sonagram was june 27, my daughter was due on Sep.21 and arrived sept. 12. I got the second sonagram due to concerns over baby's size and lack of movement. I can't see feet in the picture but there is a clear picture of her face and hands. My guess is that her feet were visible just not in the picture. They couldn't see gender in the picture, due to cramped space but did see her hair. Hopefully, the feet will be visable and you can finally relax.

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, hopefully we'll be able to see them today! I'm leaving in about an hour- of course tomorrow I'll let you know what we found out.

Hi! I'm happy to report that thanks to a very determined and patient sonographer, we were able to see both our son's feet yesterday, and they looked fine! The one was really easy to see, but for the other we had to wait and do other measurements, etc and then go back to it. It looks like a fine little foot :)
and we even saw his little face, complete with chubby cheeks, Asian eyes (like mommy!), button nose, and even some fuzzy hair!
It was very fun- a happy day! Next time we see him will be on his birthday!!

Lisa, that's terrifically good news!! I'm so happy for you! And how neat that you could see so much detail of the baby's face. Was this a traditional grainy black-and-white u/s, or one of the newer 3D kind?

Cheers!
Sandra

Lisa, thank you for sharing your great news. I am so happy that you got to see both of the feet and that everything is ok. :)

Thank you! Yes, it was a traditional grainy black and white one. Even the special targeted sono we had in January at a special fetal genetic testing lab at a hospital was a traditional grainy black and white one! So maybe they don't have or use those 3Ds in my area. I don't know anyone who has ever seen one.

I saw a 3-D sono of my friend's baby. VERY COOL! The baby was 3 weeks old already at the time and I looked at the sono from I guess 6-7 month pregnant and you could recognize her as the same baby! It was pretty wild!
