I did take One a Day Weight Smart but the last time I bought vitamins One Source was on sale and it has CO Q10 in it so I tried it. I usually take mine before I go to bed.

Has anybody done their homework on multivitamins and found a good one?

I take the Viactiv multivitamin and the Viactiv calcium in the morning. They aren't anything special vitamin wise, but they are delicious!

Lunacat

I take One a Day, and I take it in the morning. The only ones I heard of that were good are One a Day and Centrum. I haven't tried that one yet. I also take calcium pills. Those are some bigguns!

I take Women's One-a-Day at night before I go to bed.

Most mult-vitamins are similar in ingredients. A vitamin should dissolve in less than 20 mins, you can test that using a small cup of white vinegar - if it's not dissolve in under 20 mins its not getting into your system and you'll just void it out.

I take a Viactiv Multivitamin at lunch time every day. I like them because they aren't ridiculously overloaded with vitamins - who needs 3000% of Vitamin C and 400% of Riboflavin? I get so many vitamins and minerals from my diet, I don't need a bunch of excess. :) Oh yeah, and they taste good too! :9

I take Puritan's Pride Mega-Vita Gel and take one in the evening. I should probably take it in the morning, but I remember better in the evening, when things quiet down. I skip the vitamins when I've had power bars during the day.

I take my One a Day WeightSmart vitamin and 600 mg calcium in the morning and 600 mg calcium in the evening.

GNC Women's Ultra-Mega Multi, one in the morning. Also an extra Vitamin E (400 eu) in the morning. One glucosime chondroitin (I think 750 mg) in the morning and one in the evening. It is said you should take the multi's with food, as most vitamins are better absorbed that way, so I take it in the morning w/breakfast.

I also use GNC Women's UMM (or at least I TRY to remember to take it every morning). Supposedly it has a timed-release effect.

Also, since I'm a teacher and am around germy students, I tend to bulk up on the Vitamin C during the winter months. At even the hint of a sore throat, I immediately take Echinacea (sp??) until the hint of germy danger is well out of the way. Although it's an herb (not a vitamin), I really credit Ech. with kepping me mostly cold-free during those months!

GNC Women's Ultra-Mega Multi

I also take this and recently switched from the vegetarian formula, as this was just as good (if not better) than the vegetarian formula I used to take. I also take extra calcium and Melatonin to help ward off migraines.

I actually have done a lot of research on vitamins and have done trial-and-error on myself to see if I notice a difference. I also agree with the ladies that talked about the vinagar test. Take the time and see if your vitamin is even dissolving. Mine was not when I did this test a few months ago. I am on a vitamin now that is derived from organic whole nutrients and I felt a difference on this vitamin 3 days after being on it. After that, I have not turned back and I am in love with the energy I get from them. I am still nursing my daughter and I think that was taking a lot out of me and now I have my "pre-daughter" energy back again! Anyway, a good test is to look at the label and see if it has 100% Biotin in it. This is an expensive essential B-vitamin that our body needs, but many company's skimp on this one because it is so expensive. Anyway, if you want more info on the vitamin I'm on, go ahead and email me perosnally. (My email is [email protected] (the member profile would not take this as an exceptable email address, so you could also use the one that I used to sign up for my forum account at [email protected] also... I check them both!))
I'd love to tell you more about it! I'm also on an energizing soy protein which is wonderful to give me a little zip in my day when I'm feeling a little tired. It is also great after a workout! These vitamins have changed the health of my family and brought me back to feeling like myself again!!!!

I take One-A-Day for women as well as 1,000 additional mg of calcium citrate and 250 mg of magnesium (to facilitate the calcium absorption).

Midnight - how do you take the calcium citrate? Do you take it at the same time as your multivitamin, and do you take all 1000 mg's together or break it up? I was taught that the body can only absorb 600 mg's max. of Ca at a time - does the magnesium do something that would allow the body to absorb more at a time? I'm curious because I rarely remember to take my calcium supplement during the day (opposite my multi at night) and taking it all at once would be easier.

I have a protein powder/meal replacement that contains vitamins and minerals in the morning (I figure that's when it will be the most use, as your body needs the nutrients to make it through the day). I also put some powdered calcium citrate and glucosamine in my morning smoothie (with the protein powder). I take different vitamins (alternating) from www.veganessentials.com and www.veganstore.com , like a chewable calcium, and a B12 spray . But since my protein powder, and an enriched soy milk that I take after my weight workouts, both contain vitamins and minerals, I don't take a multi vitamin per se.

Anyone taking vitamin-enriched foods (cereals, meal replacments, etc.) should be careful of not overdoing things, especially with vitamins A (except as beta- or alpha-carotene) and D and Iron. You CAN get too much of a good thing! And there are so many "enriched" foods nowdays, it's hard not to get too much of some nutrients.

I have learned that in order for your body to absorb calcium, you also need a family of nutrients at the same time. Your calcium supplement should also contain phosphorus (a major bone-building mineral....without the phosphorus, you don't have bone building), magnesium, manganese, D & K, zinc, and copper. I take Shaklee Super Cal Mag Plus because I am not a huge milk driker.

I take Flinstone's vitamins. Chewables. Yummy! I just took them when I was preggars, though. I don't like putting things in my body that are synthetically made. I prefer eating vegetables, believe it or not.

I take them all at the same time or I would forget. I was told by my doctor that the magnesium would help the body absorb the calcium quickly and more efficiently. I took calcium supplements all through my pregnancies (I have a milk allergy) and was never told not to take them all at once. I have been told not to take them at the same time as some other prescription medications.

My doctor has always told me that the best source of calcium is from calcium-rich foods, rather than supplements. For me, I'm not conscious enough of my diet to insure I get enough calcium so the supplements are a safety net. By the way, the Flinstones chocolate chewable calcium is much better than Viactiv!!
