What body type am I???

Leggs

Cathlete
Can anyone tell me what body type I am? I am 5'3 and weigh 127lb -Iused to weigh 124-125. My body fat is centered around the belly although people say I look petite. I do have abd muscle-however it is the fat layers over the muscle that hides the definition. My goal is to sculpt and define. Should I focus on weight training or cardio. I have the s&h series, PS series and power hour. I can no longer do high impact aerobics due to a back problem so I have to stick to all low impact tapes or modify if possible on the higher impact. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanx

Hi Leggs!
I'm no expert, but from what you have described (body fat stored through middle) I would say you are an apple shape, although most people tend to fall into more than one "body-type" classification. I think there is a bodytype calculator at www.ivillage.com so this might be worth a visit, just to clarify.
Personally, I would suggest a workout rotation which includes 4-5 cardio sessions of between 30-60 minutes per week (make one of these an interval workout, ie Interval Max), together with 2 full body endurance weight workouts (ie Power Hour, MIS) per week. Add a clean eating plan to this with plenty of water, and you should see some results.
Like you, when I first started working out in earnest, I really wanted to know what my bodytype was in order that I could select the types of workout most appropriate for me. The type of workouts suggested for my body-type did not include the kind of activities I most enjoyed doing. I have since come to realise that the best type of workouts for my body, or anybody, are those that you enjoy and will therefore stick with. Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now!!
With regard to your back troubles - I also suffer with lower back problems, so can sympathise. I have managed to quite easily modify all my cardio workouts (including Cathe) to low(er) impact with no real loss in terms of intensity (I am also currently 4 months pregnant, so impact doesn't feel too good on the bladder now, anyway!).
I hope this help - all the best with whatever you decide!
Kaz.
