What balance ball will you use?

Hi Cathe,
I know you haven't got much time to hang out at the forum lately but I'm dealing with a bit of a balance ball crisis, I'm having a lot of trouble finding just the right ball for me. I've already got a 55cm Thera-Band ball but it's way too small if a right angle is what I'm supposed to be able to make with my knees when I sit on the top of it, so I tried a 65cm Living Arts ball this weekend and it was way too big! I believe we're about the same height (approx. 5'2") so could you please tell me what brand and size ball you'll be using in the new DVDs?

I'm just so excited about the new lot, they sound like so much fun! Did I say fun?! Well they also sound like the perfect variety of stuff to kick my maternal butt back into shape after I (provided all goes well of course) have my first baby in April!!! Wow, I have so much to be excited about :7 !

I just read that the your hips should not be lower than your knees when sitting on the ball. There are some guidelines online to use when buying a ball. But be careful- make sure to get one large enough because the one I was told to get by a small online merchant was too small. Those ball kits that are sold in stores usually come in 3 sizes, so check them out. They look decent and come w/ a pump and video.

I have not totally decided who's product we will use yet, however, I don't *think* anyone makes a ball size in between the 55cm and 65 cm size. But if you are in between ball sizes, it is safer to choose the larger size. You always have the option of inflating the ball less to fit the 90 degree rule when sitting. An under-inflated ball will not be as firm, but it will function just fine.

Hi Cathe! Thanks for answering my post! After you've selected all your equipment for the new videos, I'd be really grateful if you'd let us know what you decided on. Then again, I'm sure we're all eager for any news at all about the new shoots, so excited!!

In the past year we've bought two of the Living Arts balls and they both popped during normal use after just a few months, yet we've had other balls of unknown brand that have lasted for years. I just ordered a Maxafe ball due to good reputation and reasonable price. --Karen

LAST EDITED ON Sep-25-02 AT 08:50PM (Est)[p]I have a Resist-a-ball and it seems to be holding up well. I am not putting it to heavy use, though. I like the color- silvery gray. I don't like the ones that *only* come in blue and red.

I have been using a resist a ball (smells like vanilla) but recently changed to a Pauk Check Dura Ball Pro. Man, that thing is tough! It's the kind that won't pop, but will deflate slowly, even under 1000# of pressure (and it smells like citronella!)

Wie gehts Sonnenschein?! Sind sie Deutschlander?

Thanks for the info on the Living Arts balls (viele danke)! Someone on the VF forum said their LA balls burst also, now I know to steer way clear of those!

I've called all the fitness equipment stores around here and everybody seems to carry a different brand! I took a tip from someone on the VF forum and picked up an Everlast 61cm ball from Marshalls. I like it better than the one I already had, a bit larger, nice thick material and definitely firmer, but it's still just a bit smaller than I'm hoping to find. I wonder if the Living Arts balls just run large?

Glad I got the Everlast though, I'll use it with workouts that use slightly smaller balls. Plus, it came with a yoga mat, a good pump and a video (haven't watched it yet), now my dh & I can try yoga together since we have two mats!

I just bought an Iron Body Aerobic Gym Ball, 65 cm, at TJ Maxx for $12.99. It is asilver color. Comes with a pump. Will let you know how I like it.
