What Are You Doing For Recovery Week

Cathlete
Today I started my recovery week after completing Mesocycle 1 I wanted to share what I am doing to recover.

Today was BM2 - premix 6 & STS bonus legs Disc 3.

Recovery week

I am completing week 4 of Meso 1 and I understand next week is my "off" week...so no weights at all? not even itty bitty 3-5 pounders? Come on?! So seriously, what is allowed of me to do during Recovery Week? Sorry if this is a repeat question...
Thank you all and thank you Cathe for this incredible workout!

Cheers.

Laila

I'm on a recovery week as well after finishing Meso 1. My plan for the week is as follows:

M--Cardio Fusion
T--YogaX
W--Cardio Coach w/elliptical
T--YogaX
F--KPC or BM2 scrambled eggs

Laila- Below is a copy of Cathe's description of the recovery week....

ACTIVE RECOVERY WEEK…Do cardio activities, yoga workouts, stretch programs , or even totally rest but NO WEIGHT TRAINING THIS WEEK!!!

I'm going to use the original squeeze workout, All the right moves, cardio coach and kickboxing.

I did Amy's ASC2 yesterday and STS med ball abs. Today was 30 min elliptical and a 20 min fast dog walk (its cold out!) Not sure what the rest of the week holds, though. I know I will do abs Weds/Fri, and I am wanting to do the 2 step routines from 4DS again, so maybe that tomorrow. The weather is supposed to be nicer on Thurs, so maybe a short run on Thurs. Fri/Sat/Sun are still up in the air, except abs on Fri. I generally choose my cardio by what I'm in the mood for that day. I'd love to like yoga, but I've tried several DVDs and can't get into it. Just doesn't click with me.

next week

I originally planned cardio workouts of varied intensity for 4 days, one yoga and one stretch day, but after reading a couple of Cathe's post ideas on what to do for the recovery week, I'm going to scale back to less intense cardio and not as much of it. So here is what I am thinking:

Walk - 3 to 4 miles
C&W cardio premix and short 20 min Yoga.
Stretch Max
Walk - 3 to 4 miles
RS
longer Yoga workout

Oh and I'll probably add an Ab workout or two

Hey guys...I left this question for Cathe and she gave a great response for what DH and I should be doing...

"Active recovery really doesn't have any hardcore do's/don'ts (other than don't continue to train hard with no time off). You can take a scenic walk in park (or visit long wood gardens if you live close), go can take your dog for an extended walk, you can take a gentle yoga class, you can visit an amuzement park and walk a lot and eat a little, go roller skating, ice skating, or go through some practice drills with your kids sports. Go hiking, do senic biking, or go to the YMCA for a leasurely swim. I hope these ideas are helpful."
Since our furry babies are available, we will be taking them for long walks if the weather holds up. The rest of the days, we will just be creative. :)

I haven't started STS yet -- I'm just about done with my 1RMs :D -- but I'm planning to use my Classical Stretch workouts and CC during the recovery weeks.

Recovery week, day 2

I had mixed feelings about a "recovery week", but so far I think its going well.

Yesterday I did 20 minutes cardio, 20 minutes core, 20 minutes stretching.
Today 30 minutes cardio, 20 minutes stretching.

I'm feeling good and energetic! Managed to do some real cleaning yesterday including moving the stove to clean under and around it (last of the major appliances to do this year :) ), and polishing the kitchen cabinets. And that after dusting & vacuuming the rest of the house.

Have to do paperwork today, but first I'll go outside to play ball with Lark, walk the yard, check the gardens for signs of Spring. The sun is shining and it's up to 18 degrees.

hi all, i decided to go a little easier on my recovery week too. i did Ultimate Fat Burning Workout, w/alison. i went pretty easy w/it and used 3#'s for 4-limb. i hope that is ok. i usually use 7's w/that workout. but, it was good. and i wanna do one of the abs from STS. but i am soo tired, don't know if i'm gonna get to it. i don't know if it is STS making me so tired or just life, but i'm wiped out. so, anyway, have a great recovery week.

Where do YOU live?! I'm in Dayton, OH and the sun really did feel good today. Couldn't stay out as long as I'd have liked, but spotted a few crocuses and tulips poking up (I did have to look close, but they were there). 80 degrees, sun shine and horses--super.

Well, as it turns out, not much of anything! I did a turbo jam dvd yesterday, wanted something different, so busted that one out. But so far that's it.

I had plans to do more, and on Sunday, I was very edgy and just wanted to start meso 2, but I knew better, AND I'm going away for a few days this week. My little vacation destination will not be very conducive to working out, I was hoping for warmer weather to maybe just walk a bit, but that's not looking good, so oh well, this will be a VERY restful rest week for me.

The only thing bugging me, is how I can just go from total hard core workouts to total nothing and be ok with with it.

Oh wait, I forgot, I did shovel yesterday and today :p

One of Cathe's suggestion was to rest all week, so it's prefectly ok that it turned out to be a restful time for you. You will probably come back to Mesocycle 2 even stronger. Enjoy your vacation.

Checking in with No equipment abs & LIS Cardio Only Premix from 4DS.

Thanks! I sure hope so! I'm really looking forward to starting meso2.

Too much cardio??

Ok after reading everyone's thoughts on the "recovery week," I'm wondering I'm doing TOO much?? I've done pretty intense cardio all week, so far:
Saturday - Run outside (5k)
Sunday - Run outside (shorter, it was freezing)
Monday - Imax 3
Tuesday - 1 hour on treadmill (mix of running/walking, I had shin splints bugging me)
Today - Spinning

I plan to run tomorrow, spin on Friday and Spin on Saturday. I don't know, I think I'm addicted to cardio after reading my own post! Will I do damage by doing so much cardio in the week between meso 1 and meso 2? Can someone advise? Too bad Cathe already spent two hours on the boards yesterday, this is a good one for her!

Checking in today with Total body stretch - stability ball #1 and 10 min solutions total body pilates.

jsutera - I think you might won't to do some low intensity workouts, do one stretch day and one day of complete rest. I am a cardio junkie too so I know how you feel.

I did functional fitness on Sun (Tracie Long), spinning Mon, IMAX2 y'day, but truthfully - I am ready to GNAW OFF MY ARM! I know this week is good for me, but meso-1 went so fast, that I am going nuts by not lifting at all. Still, I made that promise to myself to do this program as planned - so, a'gnawing I will go. :p

I know, you're probably right - but I can't stop myself, I don't know if I can take a rest day - like you said, I'm chomping at the bit for Meso #2! Do you think it'll do me harm if I don't take a rest day?? Or am I ok to be a cardio queen this week?

I am missing weight lifting this week but I'm going to try to stick with Cathe's plan to take a week off. So far this is what I have done:

Monday: STS ball abs and 30 minutes run on the snowy streets of my neighborhood
Tuesday: 45 minute swim (almost a mile) with a couple of fast intervals
Wednesday: 30 minute swim

I'm missing some 1 rep max's for the next mesocycle so I may have to break down and do a couple before Sunday which is my start day for meso 2 but maybe I'll wait until Sunday morning.
