What are the workout flooring options again?

So, I know, I know, this has been asked a gazillion times. But what are the options again for flexible/cushiony-ish flooring?

We are re-doing our basement and kicking the kids unused & broken crap out and putting the workout equipment back in!! :p Mama needs more room!

Would those of you who have posted photos of your home gyms mind sending them again? Pretty please!

We just finished remodeling our house and put the StageStep Springstep II Subfloor System in my exercise room.

I believe this is the same flooring that Cathe uses in her studio.

It took DH and I about a day and a half to install the subfloor and the laminate flooring on top. We spent the first day installing the subfloor and then the next day we installed the laminate floor on top of the sublfoor in about 3 hours. I figure that is pretty good for two very amateur do-it-yourselfers!

It wasn't cheap but it wasn't expensive either and I figure my knees are worth it since I plan on working out with Cathe for a long time.

I love my floor so much I dream about it! :eek:
 
I choose Tileflex and I love it! I have very low ceilings in the basement, and the stage step floor was a couple inches tall. Workout room.JPG

I went with a foam mat that is used by gymnasts, cheerleaders etc. It's 2 inch poly foam. It adsorbs jumps pretty well. (nothing like a spring floor though). I have it over concrete/carpeting. I like it.

I would love a spring floor!! :D

I have the cheap-o puzzle mats from Lowes. I double layered them and they work great! I've had them for years....maybe 10 years now, and they have held up perfectly! (They are placed wall to wall over ceramic tile.)

Oh I SO have home-gym envy!! So, let me ask you rubber-floor gals a question. When you are doing Step do you feel like your feet kinda stick on the flooring? Does that make sense?

We just built a gym in our basement and right now I'm using puzzle mats on top of the concrete floor. These are okay, but they slide around. I'd love to get something called Plyorobic rolls, which I've heard are great for high impact workouts. They are not too expensive, but they cost almost as much to ship as they do to purchase. I can't find any local suppliers and it kills me to pay so much for shipping. For now I'm holding off. If anyone has used these, I'd love to hear your opinion (and please let me know where you got them).

Of course! But, I haven't made a final decision on the flooring and don't want to invest in more mats if it's only a short term solution. For now, I may use double sided tape on the bottom, but the sliding is actually minimal.

This flooring was discussed quite a bit in the STS forum - it's what I've got in my basement. Love it! AND I got a discount for mentioning I read about it on Cathe.

As for sticking, yes, when I pivot to the back when doing step, my shoes grab a little. Not a ton, but enough that I have to be careful. However, I don't have joint problems anymore which is a godsend for me.

I'm looking into these puzzle mats. I have hardwood floors so I put a piece of carpet down for now. The carpet slips and I don't feel safe doing cardio. Your workout room looks bigger then mine. Were the puzzle mats real expensive? Oh, and where in Lowes did you find these? Or did you get them on line?

My room is really not that big... about 15 ft x 15 ft. It is fully mirrored on 3 walls, so that probably makes it look bigger in the picture.

I found the puzzle mats in the flooring section at my local Lowes store. I have them double layered, wall to wall, so I invested a bit of money in them, but not excessive. I wish I could remember what they cost, but it has been almost 10 years ago that I bought them. I do remember that they came in packages of four. Just a rough estimate, I probably have a couple hundred dollars invested in them. Of course, they probably cost more now.

I've been extremely pleased with them over the years.
 
I bought two packs of puzzle mats from sports authority, they were on sale, 20 percent off. But prior to that I had them in my cart on kmart.com (idea found after searching here). Mine slide, too on my tile floor and wall to wall not an option in my current w/o area. My step slides too. I cut up a bath mat and placed it under the risers.
How else can you get the puzzle mats not to slide?

I measured my room today and it's 10ft x 11 ft. I plan on going to Lowes this week to get an idea of how much it's going to cost me. Hopefully, it's not to expensive.

I know of a few people who use double sided tape to keep their mats from sliding. Or, maybe one of those mats used underneath area rugs to keep them from sliding. If you find a solution, I'd love to hear it!
 
Does anyone have a preference of the thickness of the mats? I see some that say 3/8", 5/8" or 7/8? Which do you guys prefer? I found some mats that I'd like to get, but they're only 3/8". Suggestions anyone?
