What are "Hi Lo" workouts, exactly?

For me, tough choreography sometimes means putting one foot in front of the other on certain days!
 
"hi-lo" simply means a combination of high-impact and low-impact moves. The choreo can be complex or simple (and different instructors vary the mix of high and low impact. Some "hi-lo" is mostly high impact. Some is mainly low impact. Some a good mix of both.).

If you look at the workout descriptions at www.collagevideo.com , they give an indication of the complexity of choreography (which I don't always agree with, but it's a good general guide. Then watch the clips to see if their definition of "basic" choreo is the same as yours!)
 
I agree with Kathryn. Make sure you review video clips before purchasing any hi-lo. I have tried a lot and have found the impact and intensity to be more "hi" than "lo" in most. Have you looked into other kickboxing dvd's? I know you enjoy Cathe's KPC. Maybe head over to Amy's site and view the clips for In The Ring and Rumble. I would not recommend her hi-lo or step workouts to a novice but ITR and Rumble are good, solid kickboxing workouts that really work up a sweat. Amy's website is nrgfitness.net. She has nice long clips of all of her workouts. I also really enjoy Tracey Staehle's StrikeZone and her new Hi/Lo Med Ball workout. Her new Hi/Lo isn't too complicated at first glance. I was also going to put in a plug for hi-lo medball here. I've been having trouble with the high impact stuff lately -- sore foot, mostly, but I think these joints just ain't getting any younger, you know? Tracey's HLMB seems like a good workout without too much impact -- and the choreography is pretty simple to follow or at least catch up with. I almost wonder if she means hi-lo as in high and low intensity -- seems like she says something like that at one point. Anyway, check it out -- it may fit the bill.
