what a difference decreasing weight makes

Cathlete
so i've always tried to keep with cathe's weight during her lifting workouts. well today i did MM and decided to drop my weight by 5-10lbs depending on the exercise. Doing this really allowed me to utilize the full range of motion for each exercise especially squats and lunges. All this time I have been matching cathes weight which was inhibiting me from full movement as it was too heavy for me. I actually felt like i got a better workout today by doing this. Anyone else guilty of this?

For sure! With squats, I normally lift about 10lbs lighter than the crew. When she does single squats, 40lbs is too heavy for me to manage good form at that pace. I can do it if she slows down to 2/2 or more, but in general, I prefer to squat with no heavier than 30lbs.

Especially if your form improved and you feel like you got a better workout, keep going with that! There's no "guilt" attached to it. Everyone is different and different things work for different people! Don't feel bad helping yourself!

I was! I could never understand why I couldn't get my flys to look like hers until I dropped down in weight. Much better! I know I want to prove to myself that I am strong and that I can lift heavier "if" I really try. However, I have been guilty of letting my ego get in the way when I should have just slowed down and lightened up. And I also agree with you about getting a better workout. Instead of struggling through the workout,I am now able to enjoy the workout and benefit from it.
