Comic book legend Archie to propose to Veronica

One of the longest running love triangles may be about to come to an end.

Comic book legend Archie Andrews is going to propose to Veronica later this year, according to Archie Comics' official website.

It's promoting the release of Archie issue number 600, due to go on sale Sept. 8.

The website tells fans to prepare themselves for the Archie story they thought they'd never see.

The competition between Veronica and Betty for Archie's attention has been the cornerstone of Archie Comics for 65 years.

The Archie website is calling it the "the Archie Story of the Century."

The website shows an image of the issue with a blue suited Archie on one knee in front of a beaming Veronica with a caption that reads "yes."

Betty is teary-eyed and pal Jughead looks stunned.

One comment posted on the website indicated that Archie is marrying the wrong girl.

"Personally I think he should marry Betty," a person named Kelly posted.

"She is cuter, more down to earth and not as flighty as Veronica."

Betty is a wonderful girl with self esteem issues. If I wrote this story Archie would realize how amazing she is, and how his life would never be complete without her and go crawling to her. Betty would decide enough is enough. So she would say "No." and live happily and confidently ever. Archie will realize he needs to grow up and reads self improvement books and introspect. Veronica is a spoilt brat and it doesnt really matter what happens to her so the story wont waste any time on her.

Yeah ..I know...this is why no one hires me to write comic books.

I wonder if it isn't a publicity/marketing stunt. Shocked fans rush out to buy the comic to see if it's really true. Whereas if the pic showed him on bended knee in front of Betty, they'd say - "oh I knew it all along, why bother buying this special edition."

I just can't imagine Archie with anyone but Betty. Veronica is too self absorbed and high maintenance for Archie.

No no. You SHOULD write comic books. If you wrote them people who never go near them, like me, would actually READ them. Seriously, you could connect with a whole new audience.

Archie needs to grow a pair. I figure Veronica will make Archie's life a living Hell and, after the divorce, he'll go chasing after Betty, who will have nothing to do with him because she's nobodys d*mn consolation prize. Besides, he's, like, so 1970!

In his old age, Archie will be kicking himself as Betty and Veronica, business partners for decades, make the cover of FORBES magazine when they have the top selling cosmetics company in the world.

Yea, comic books I'd not only collect but frame and hang on my walls!
