Welcome to 2014!

Its a sunny, cool day, only a few small aircraft in the sky. Got up early to watch the Rose Parade on TV. Then, I put away Mt. Saint Laundry. I'm also cleaning out some old shoes that hurt my feet.

My Mom has asked me to help my Dad learn to do yoga. I don't know how this will go. He is the most inflexible person I know. He can't even touch his toes and he wears glasses. This will be interesting.:)

I got a bit sick this morning. I think that last nights experiment with nachos was a bad idea. I won't be doing that again. I feel ok now, but I think maybe that their meat might have been the culprit. I haven't been eating a whole lot of meat lately.

My goals for 2014 are weight loss, do something exercise wise at least 4x/week, and really improve my diet. I've been looking into some of those 'raw till 4' videos, but I would have to give up my oatmeal, which I am partial to. Maybe I will just go vegetarian until 4 pm and keep meat meals to just 1-2x/week (that includes chicken or pork.) I am not going to go vegan because I do like honey. Turns out that my Father's grandfather kept bees. I had no idea. How neat is that? My Dad grew up eating organic, wild, raw honey and I bet he didn't even know it.

On a sad note: my kitty isn't eating. We don't know why. She just came off of two weeks of antibiotics. I wondered if she was constipated from the antibiotics. I'm taking her to see the vet soon. She doesn't even want to meow.

Happy New Year!!!

It is cool and rainy here. In fact the whole week between Christmas and New Years seems to be the same. I think we maybe had one day of sunshine. Tomorrow I go back to work. :(

I worked out from the 27th to yesterday. Today is a rest day. Tomorrow I will do something after work...maybe try to run. My ankle is much better. The swelling is gone for the most part and as well as the bruising. It's still a bit sore from time to time -- maybe it's the weather. I have a race planned on the 4th but don't know if I'm going. It's a 10K but I can do the 5K but it's part trail with roots and stuff so I'm not sure if I'm going to do it. I'll wait and see.

I have the same workout goals as always but I do want to try to get a new job and maybe get my personal training cert.

Tricia ~ We couldn't open out back door because the lock was busted. Our front door was partially rusted and the wood around it was rotted. They did do a great job installing them. The back door always had a space where it did not fit correctly but they fixed that. They charged me $480 to install the doors (2 guys - worked all day more or less). The doors were about $800+ so it was expensive.

Alisha ~ You have some great goals for 2014. I hope Kitty is feeling better.

Maria The Cat has a high fever, and we took her to the vet this morning. The vet gave her intravenous fluids and medicine and has done some blood work.

The power went out this morning. I went to Denny's to use the restroom and had some eggs/toast. I am so proud of myself for not ordering something fattening.:D That said, I don't really like their food anyway.:p

Jane- I hope that your ankle is better enough to enjoy your run.

Tricia- Hows it going?

Alisha

I did not go running today. It was cool and rainy. Maybe tomorrow. Ankle still healing. I don't want to push it.

Here is my workout for today:
100 weighted sit ups
100 push ups
100 seated half moons
60 Russian Twists
40 Halos

Alisha ~ I hope Maria feels better soon! Yippee for keeping it healthy today!

Hi Tricia.

Jane- Maria did eat some dinner last night after having her medicine. She did not want to eat her breakfast today. I hope that your ankle is better soon.

I am going to the co-op this morning. Its 1st Friday, which is 'Anti Depression Friday' where everybody gets 10% off, its our way to help the local state gov. workers cope with furloughs.

Its like spring around here. Its nearly 70 deg. sunny, clear, and I wish I could share with Tricia, I know she would like some of this.

I will do two miles tomorrow and a stretch max, I'm easing into things.

Alisha

Hello ladies! Happy 2014!

I can't believe I missed this whole week! What happened to the time? Sheesh!

Alisha - I hope kitty is feeling better! There's nothing worse than when they are sick!

Does your dad want to do yoga? It's easier even with inflexibility issues when there's the desire! I hope that goes well!

I wish I were there! We are supposed to hit below zero tonight. It was 13 degrees when I left work this evening. We had a terrible storm last night and driving to work was awful! At least we didn't have to go in to work until 10:30 this morning. Not that it helped as far as the roads were concerned. With the temps so low, the snow was like ice to drive on. It was very nerve-wracking. I fishtailed turning onto a street from a stop light and I wasn't even going more than 15 mph. Luckily, there was no traffic.

Hi Jane! Glad your ankle is getting better! Trail runs can be dangerous! Hope you are able to go! Very exciting that you want to get your PT cert! You should! What kind of job do you think you'll look for? Something in the same line of what you do now?

We went to see Wicked last night and it was wonderful! The storm was pretty much just kicking in when we were on our way home. It had been snowing all day already. We slipped and slid our way home. I'm glad, at times like these, that we live so close to everything. The show was great and the theatre was packed! I love the theater!

Stephen wanted to go surfing on NYD, so we went. I bundled all up and watched from shore. There was no surf, but he just HAD to go anyway! lol

I finally got around to doing STS Disc 2 tonight. I slacked on NYD. Going to the beach threw my timing off, so I just didn't do anything. I'll do legs tomorrow and I'll be back on schedule!

My biggest problem is food. I don't want to eat. I just don't want anything. Nothing is appealing, so I eat whatever. I eat because I have to. I'm not making sense. I know what I feel like, but it's difficult to put into words. I'm not eating Little Debbie cakes and sweets and fried chicken and stuff. It's more like this: I used to love my oatmeal, but now, I just don't want it, but I eat it because I know I have to have something in the mornings. I don't want to shop, cook or anything. It's weird.

OH! Speaking of oatmeal - Alisha, you know you can make raw oatmeal. If you need recipes, I can get you some. I also have the menus and recipes for a 30 day raw program and a 5 day raw program if you'd like to use some of that and modify to your schedule/needs. Let me know.

Well, it's the weekend! Enjoy ladies! I'm going to try to survive these temps until we warm up! Is it summer yet?

Jane - At least I'm noticing the sky staying lighter now, on the few days we get sunshine! lol

We are force feeding the cat some water from a little dropper. She is drinking but she seems to forget to drink on her own. She looks better than she did the other day and I think her fever is down. I did persuade her to eat some chicken/gravy baby food yesterday. She is so pathetic. :(

I haven't exercised because I just didn't feel like it. I plan to start tomorrow.

Its nice and sunny outside. Its more like spring than winter.

Tricia- I don't know that Dad wants to do yoga because of the spiritual aspect so I thought I would just teach him some simple stretches and have him do some low impact walking with me. I don't want to injure him or have it be unappealing. Nothing like the wrong style workout to send someone screaming from the gym:eek:

Jane- It is so exciting about you becoming a personal trainer!! You could whip us all into half marathon shape!

Alisha

Hi Ladies!

Guess what? I did a 6 mile walk/run today. YIPPEE!!! I say walk/run because it was more walking than running but my ankle/foot felt great. I'm so happy. I decided not to do the race I had planned for yesterday because I didn't feel strong enough. I worked out last night and did some swings and unweighted squats and walked and ran a little bit. I knew that I was going to at least walk today but I added in some running because my ankle felt good.

Alisha ~ I'm glad Maria is feeling a bit better. I sending lots of healing vibes to her. It is in the 60's here but the next couple of days will be colder and than back to the 60's-70's by the end of the week. I'm been meaning to get my PT cert for a long time now. It's hard to find time to study but I'm going to work at it this year.

Tricia ~ Right now I'm looking for what I do now which is Office Administration but I'm open to anything that is in the administrative field. I like certain things about my job but I'm tired and frustrated that the company (owner) does nothing about how the company is run and that there is no financial responsibility. I've been there almost 8 years and it's just time to go.

I'm glad you are back on track with your workouts. I'm sure you'll find your mojo when it comes to eating and cooking. I don't really like shopping either but I do like going to Whole Foods because I can get better things than I can get at my local store. That makes me excited in a weird way.

Hi ladies!

Alisha - I don't blame you for not feeling like working out. When Milo was sick, all I wanted to do was moon over him and sit with him. I hope Maria continues to improve! Sending lots of healing her way! It's good that you can at least get her to eat and drink with assistance.

I know what you mean about scaring someone away from exercising! I think you have a good approach for your dad.

Jane - Nice work with the 6 miles! I'm glad your ankle is back to feeling good! I know your company has been quite a mess for a while. Sending you lots of positive energy that you can find something right up your alley this year!

I had considered getting my PT cert back, but my husband says no one would want to hire me as a personal trainer because of my age. Yeah, that made me feel really good about myself and working on self-improvement. Oh, well.

It's warmer, but cloudy and drizzly and we're supposed to get rain tomorrow. I did do yoga today. Woo!

I get the feeling if I were living by myself, I'd not be eating at all right now. I went through that once before. Food just doesn't interest me right now. Maybe come spring that will shift again.

Well, tomorrow starts our first full work week again since before Christmas. That's going to be hard!

Have a great night you two!

Good Morning!

Here is my workout from last night. We worked out inside because it was cold. Our version of a 300 workout.

25 Bridges
25 Seated Half Moons
25 push ups
25 sumo squats
25 pullover sit ups
25 presses
25 rows
25 russian twists
25 Bicep curls
25 squats
25 scissor kicks
25 seated half moons

It is 21 degrees this morning with a wind chill of 13. The high is 39 then another cold night in the 20's and then the warm up begins. We will be in the 70's by Saturday.

Tricia ~ I don't think of my age as a negative and I think it's bad for your husband to say that. For one reason because we are an aging population and there are lots of older people that want to workout. My (old) trainer is a year younger than us and she doesn't have a problem getting clients. Age has nothing do it with anything.

Hi Alisha ~ How is Maria?

Power outtage this morning for a couple of hours. So, no exercise, no shower, no internet, no fun. Went to breakfast with my mom. Then, when we got home the power was back on.

Now, it is 5$ Tuesday here at the movies so I am going to see Hunger Games. I'm not hungry though, I won't be eating the snacks there, their food makes me sick to my tummy.

Jane- Maria is eating food and taking water without much fuss. She is sitting in the sunny window area. I think that she is getting better.

Tricia-Good job on the yoga.

Alisha

Hello ladies! It is a VERY chilly day and night here! Brrrrr!

Jane - Great workout! That is awfully cold for you guys down there! I can't get over how cold it has been these last two weeks! Glad it's almost over for a little while at least!

We had a lovely high of 16 today and it's 8 degrees now. However, last week, we got down to 5 below on Thursday night, so I have a hard time thinking of this "Polar Vortex" being worse than last week!

Alisha - Can't believe you were without power! That stinks! Hope you enjoyed the new Hunger Games movie! I can't believe they are going to go the way of Twilight and split Mockingjay into 2 parts. That's just money grubbing. Makes me mad.

Glad to hear that Maria is doing much better!

Did my STS Disc 4 tonight. Went grocery shopping last night and didn't get in until 6 and by the time I got everything put away, it was almost 6:30, so I skipped last night. We'll be warmer tomorrow - a whole 27 degrees! Woo-hoo!

Have a great night you two!

Good Morning!

Yesterday was a rest day. Today will be a 3 mile run. It will be warmer today. Currently it's 23 degrees but it feels like 17. The high will be 53 and tonight it will be 38 and tomorrow it will be 58 so it's slowly getting back to normal. I'm glad the sun has been out at least.

Tricia ~ Stay warm. Great job on the workout.

Alisha ~ I'm sorry about the no power. I hate when that happens. At least you got to go out for breakfast with your mom. I'm glad Maria is feeling better.

Maria is eating, yippee!!

Went for a hike this morning. Now, I have to go to Medi-cal with my brother, who is not fit for driving as he has been up all night. Its was cold earlier, but the sun has come out now. I plan to do some sort of indoor workout tomorrow.

Tricia-I loved the Hunger Games movie. Well done on STS.

A whole 27 deg? :D:p

Jane-Enjoy your run. Enjoy your sunny day.

Alisha

Evening ladies!

Jane - Glad the weather is finally getting to be more normal for you down there! I'll bet it was tough to tolerate our temps for a while!

Alisha - So happy Maria is doing so much better and eating again! Glad you were able to get out for a hike, too! Sounds like things just might be getting back to normal for you as well! I'm looking forward to seeing the next HG movie!

I've taken a couple of days off. I'll pick back up with STS tomorrow and finish week 2 on Saturday. I need to start getting my cardio in next week. Oddly, my weight has come down 2.5 pounds even without the cardio and while still eating junk at lunch. Gotta fix that.

We are getting a teenie bit warmer each day. We didn't quite hit 30 today, but tomorrow, we're supposed to hit low 40s. I'll be so glad!

Have a great night and I'll see you tomorrow for FRIDAY!!!

TGIF!

I took yesterday as a rest day. Today will be a workout with some running in it. I haven't figured it out yet. Maybe...running mixed in with some presses. We'll see. It's cloudy but in the high 60's.

Alisha ~ So happy to hear that Maria is eating!

Tricia ~ Your weight coming now may be due to the weight work you've been doing.

What's on tap for the weekend?

Tricia- Don't look a gift scale in the mouth, just accept the pounds lost as a gift from the scale goddess.;)

Jane-Enjoy your workout.

On Thursday I did yoga and meditation. On Friday I went for a longer hike. Then, I had to take the kitty cat to see the vet because she has developed a lot of congestion in her face. The vet examined her snott under the microscope and did not see any fungus or yeast, so basically the cat has a cold. They also tested for FIV (kitty HIV) and that was negative (yeah!). Overall, not bad. But, they did not like that she was eating so little and gave her medicine for appetite and sent home a subcutaneous fluids bag. We have to give her 200 mls of fluid every day. And, she is supposed to eat 3x the food she is eating. But, she doesn't want to eat because she can't smell the food. She did eat some dinner last night and some breakfast this morning. She did not like the appetite medicine, I'm sure it was bitter. Poor kitty. You should have seen the dirty look I got for that.

Today my Aunt/Uncle are coming to visit my folks. I have to do a little house work and go to the grocery store. They should be here a couple of days. We plan to take Aunt Laurie to an antique store that is super fun.

Hopefully it will rain!! We are in a terrible drought. The weather is great but come May we will be hurting. But, not as much as other people, we are on a well.

Alisha

Evening ladies!

Alisha - Poor kitty! Now, a cold! Medicine never tastes good, but, hopefully, it will at least get her eating better! Enjoy the visit with your Aunt and Uncle! Hope you get some rain!

Jane - How was your workout? We were at 57 today, but we had rain and a lot of wind so it didn't feel that warm! We went to get take the motor off the boat, but Stephen couldn't get the electric start undone. The marina hard-wired it in and it was pouring (hadn't rained until we got there) and he worked on it for a good 45 minutes. Now, he's going to have to pay the marina to do it. We were trying to save on expenses. Oh, well.

This week was a bust workout wise. I did STS Chest Shoulders and Biceps on Tuesday, but nothing the rest of the week. Just couldn't get my butt moving. Going to pick up with the next disc and I'll just be a few days behind. My motivation sucks even with the good news on the scale. I just can't seem to keep myself going. Trying hard though!

We'll see what tomorrow brings . . .

Happy Monday!

I took Saturday as a rest day. I was at mom’s house all day on Saturday. She is still suffering from nerve and leg pain. Her nerve test revealed that she had only minor nerve damage. She has to make an appointment with the neurologist to get some drugs. In the meantime I have her taking a supplement called Alpha Lipoic Acid because I have read that it helps people with nerve damage. I hope it works because I don’t want her to take Lyrica or other drugs. She continues to go to massage therapy and physical therapy. I think some of her leg pain is from physical therapy but she can’t tell the difference. She is afraid to drive because sometimes she has involuntary movement in her legs but she is going to her eye appointment by herself today. I hope we can get this sorted out because I am fearing that she’ll lose her independence. She will be 80 next month.

On Sunday I ran 7 miles. My ankle is much better. It is achy from time to time but otherwise it is pretty much back to normal. I have a 15K race on February 1 so I am training for that. I know I can do the distance but I lose my cardio a bit. I am also doing a ½ marathon on March 1.

I am doing a leg workout tonight.

Alisha – I hope Kitty is feeling better. Medicine tastes yucky and unfortunately she can’t know that it will make her better in the long run. I hope you had a nice time with your aunt and uncle. I hope you get some rain. It rained all day on Saturday and we are having more rain tonight. Winter is always rainy here.

Tricia – I hope you get your mojo back. I think it’s hard to workout when it’s cold and dreary. I have trouble here and it isn’t that cold here. We were in the 60’s yesterday and 70’s today but it will be colder in the middle of the week.

My Aunt & Uncle have gone home. It was nice to see them, but it is nice to get back to normal. I started the day with a few business items and now I'm cut loose to study for my accessibility exam. I may also go to the movies as it is Tuesday. Its nice and sunny. I would share my weather, its clear and today's high is 70.

Maria is eating better. We are still giving her daily fluids. She seems to forget to eat.

I haven't exercised all weekend because of the company. But, now that things are back to normal, I will start again tomorrow. I'm leaning towards walking. Its ttotm, so I'm not likely to run.

Jane- I hope that your Mom is feeling better from her leg pain. I'm so glad that you are able to run again.

Tricia- We only had one day of rain. I hear you, its hard to get our mojo back. I'm not really feeling like it, but I just have to do it anyway. I usually don't feel like it to begin with. It takes at least a mile before I feel good.
