Weightloss, exercise while taking Prednisone

Cathe,
In the last year I have lost 50 pounds since having my secong baby. I did it through diet and exercise. I came across your workouts on Fit TV a few months ago and fell in love with step aerobics and the weight lifting. I feel wonderful after that hour! I try to do the step at least 5 days a week, and the weights 2 or 3 times.
Recently I was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis, and auto immune disease. One symptom is severe joint pain. Working out and getting my body warmed up actually relieves the pain temporarily. I've had a flare up and was prescribed Predinisone. This was really devastating to me because you typically gain weight with it. I am down to 25mg a day for now and tapering. I have gained 7 pounds. I am keeping up with the exercise, but my diet is hard some days. I usually count calories.
I am looking for advice on how to keep losing weight while taking prednisone, and staying the fittest possible. Summer is right aroung the corner. Plus, I need the most work in my core. I still have alot of "flab" from the pregnancy. What's the best for this? I know I may never have a totally flat stomach, but I would like to get as close as possible.
I am 5'7" and currently weigh 163.
I would appreciate your time and any advice you have for me. I just want to keep the weight in control and reach my goal of 145. Thank you.

not Cathe here but I too am on prednisone for autoimmune issues..I am too having a hard time with weight loss and have gained about 10 since starting the prednisone...I have been told to REALLY WATCH the sodium intake as that will contribute to the gain as will eating a lot of carbohydrates..even cutting back and skipping meals (sorry, I am bad)...has not helped..I think while we are on the steroids, it will be a uphill battle...I dont expect to see the scale move, unfortunatly until I stop taking the steroids...

Also not Cathe here, but I wanted to agree that there is not much you can do (I've been on and off prednisone for short periods of time over the last few years). As I understand it, the drug messes with your metabolism, so the normal clean diet-regular exercise regimen doesn't do what it should. I just try to stay as healthy as I can to avoid maximum weight gain, and when you do go off the drug, you should see good results quickly. Good luck!
