Weighted Vests

I am interested in getting a weighted vest to compliment my lower body workout. I don't have a squad machine and lifting too much weight over my head to do leg workout is not very safe. I feel like I am stuck at the same weight and I am not lifting my potential. I googled the item. I had no idea so many companies made them. I want to get one that will last (even if it's more expensive).

What has been your experience? What's your opinion on which one/brand to get?

Thanks in advance for your input.

:) Check out: Gaiam WALKVEST Kit by Debbie Rocker, New Design
$39.98 with free s/h. on www.amazon.com

I have this vest and really like it. Fantastic quality and good looking for such a low price. Size chart is true to size. I'm a size 6-8 and I have an
XS-S size vest. You can also purchase additional weights.

Happy walking,
:D Viki

The vest comes with 8 half-pound weights totalling 4 lbs. (That doesn't sound like much, but you really feel it.) They slip into
little pockets all around the vest. Vest can hold up to 16 lbs.
Go to amazon.com and click on to related video. You'll see it in action.

If you want something that holds more weight than a walking vest, check out www.ironwearfitness.com This is what I'm leaning towards because I like the flexible weights and the construction of these vests. Also, I like the ironwear ones because other vests that you have to lift over your head to put on could get to be a problem if you load up heavy weights, which is what I want to do in place of a squat rack. Another factor is how the shoulder straps are made. A few have reported at VF that some vests really hurt their shoulders. Some vests make you get really hot. Ironwear vests are more expensive than the walking vest posted above, but I guess it comes down to what your goals are, your price range, and if you need to be concerned with how the weight is distributed on your lower back and shoulders.

Happy shopping. Mesocycle 3 will be here before we know it and will need more weight for our legs. }( :7

Hi

One idea a friend of mine gave me in place of weighted vest(I am on budget)is fill up zip lock bags with sand, then place them in a back pack. He said that's what they used to have do in the Marines.

The one concern I have regarding this alternative is that the weights will not be distributed like the weighted vasts.

I'm planning to buy the Ironwear vest, too. It looks really nice and like it won't be suffocating. I used to use a weighted vest at the gym for lunges and squats and I liked it a lot! It's an effective and comfortable way to add weight.

Walmart has a weighted vest from Gold's Gym. Its a one size fits most and comes with 20 pounds of weights for $49.99. I believe the weights are in 1 pound increments.

I have been thinking of getting a weighted vest and am glad I waited. I think the Cool Vest looks perfect! Thanks Wanda!
:)

Checked them out on Amazon the other day also.

Some of the reviews mentioned the one size fits all didn't work well, were too big, and that was from males.

Some said the vests tore quickly.

I found good reviews for the WALKVEST mentioned above. Am going to do a little more research, but think it will be near if not at the top of my list to purchase.

Just wanted to tell you my good fortune. I bought a weighted vest at the 2nd hand store for only $20.00. It's a large, but who cares. My husband and I can use it. It weighs 20lbs and top quality. It looks like it hasn't even been worn.

I will use it for walking and lower body workouts.

You might want to check those kinds of stores out.
