weight training question

I recently increased my running to 5 or 6 days a week for about 30 min. My problem is, with my current weight training schedule I feel exhausted. Before I started running so much I was doing a split that usually went like this:
Mon. chest/shoulders/tris
Tues. abs
Wed. legs
Thurs.back/bis
Fri. abs
but now, lifting 5 days a week seems like a little much combined with my running. My question is, how much strength training do I need to do to keep my muscles strong? I posted this question on a runner's forum and someone said that she trains her upper body, lower body, abs/core muscles each once per week for about an hour per workout. Does this sound good?

Hi, Colette! It's absolutely fine to train each body part once per week. And if it's too exhausting train every other day. Do you go heavy? The trick is to do what works best for you. I've been doing two body parts per day. One doesn't seem like enough and three seems too many! Do be sure to increase your running incrementally. I took up running full time on my recent vacation and the sudden increase in mileage led to a stress fracture. So I've been sidelined. Finally, went out for three miles this morning. I love running! Hope this helps!
