weight loss while taking prednisone

In the last year I have lost 50 pounds since having my secong baby. I did it through diet and exercise. I came across Cathe workouts on Fit TV a few months ago and fell in love with step aerobics and the weight lifting. I feel wonderful after that hour! I try to do the step at least 5 days a week, and the weights 2 or 3 times.
Recently I was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis, and auto immune disease. One symptom is severe joint pain. Working out and getting my body warmed up actually relieves the pain temporarily. I've had a flare up and was prescribed Predinisone. This was really devastating to me because you typically gain weight with it. I am down to 25mg a day for now and tapering. I have gained 7 pounds. I am keeping up with the exercise, but my diet is hard some days. I usually count calories.
I am looking for advice on how to keep losing weight while taking prednisone, and staying the fittest possible. Summer is right aroung the corner.
Plus, I need the most work in my core. I still have alot of "flab" from the pregnancy. What's the best for this? I know I may never have a totally flat stomach, but I would like to get as close as possible.
I am 5'7" and currently weigh 163.
I would appreciate your any advice. I just want to keep the weight in control and reach my goal of 145. Thank you.

Welcome megadoo. Wanted to bump your post up. I'm not quite sure how to anser your question. I don't have any experience with prednisone. Let me read up a littl ebit and see if I come up with anything.

By the way, congrats on your accomplishments!

Hi,
I don't post much here, but I have been on high doses of prednisone for long periods of time for Crohn's disease so I can understand your worries. The last time I was on prednisone I found this great book on amazon called "Coping with Prednisone" by Eugenia Zuckerman and Julie R. Ingelfinger. It is a great book and gives great tips and ideas on how to deal with the side effects. The author apparently was put on high doses of prednisone for lung fibrosis and wrote this book with her sister who is a doctor. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon. Also had meal ideas and how to workout with prednisone.

Thanks for that info! I will look up that book.
I actually saw a Rhuematologist today, and we are going to taper off the prednisone and try another drug!! YAHOO! I may still need it in the future, but I feel there is hope now. I will read up on it in that book so I can be prepared.
I did manage to lose 2 pounds! I feel pretty good about that. Thanks for responding!
