weight loss support check-in?

Any one interested in this? I have been doing great on the working out but need to really improve my eating. I'm about 50 lbs overweight and want to be at goal weight by my birthday. (June 19) Anyone want to start a weight loss support check-in with me? Maybe if we know we have to check-in we will be more accountable? Some stats about me: I'm 31, happily married and that mother of 2 small children (a boy and a girl) and am 50 lbs heavier than before I had my kids. I have a closet full of size 8/10s I want to get into so I can donate my size 16s to charity. I LOVE cathe step tapes. I can't make it to the gym and I use to love to take step classes. I thought my step days were over until on a fluke I discovered cathe. I now have every one of her step tapes!

This sounds like a good idea to me. I know losing weight should not be the "MOST" important aspect of working out but it's hard not to think about it. I have lost 35-38 pounds and need to lose at least 10 to 15 more. I am also 31 and stand about 5'9" and when I started working out last year (about this same time) I weighed 205. I wore an 18 or 20. I could not stand it. I now weigh approximately 170 and wear a size 12. I am fairly happy with my body (always room for improvement) but still want to get those last few pounds off. I am hoping that I can do it by April 1st. So I will join in with the weight loss checkin!
:)

(work in progress)

I am VERY interested in a weight loss support check-in. I have more like 60 to 70 lbs to lose. I have only lost 5 lbs in the last year and I have no good excuse. I want so badly to see a real change in my body and a weight loss check-in may help me.

My consistency is sporadic and my eating leaves ALOT to be desired. I too am 31, going into my 2nd year of marriage (hard work, but doesn't burn calories), no little ones.

I fell in love with step at the gym years ago but got tired of memberships and discovered tapes. I first heard of Cathe at videofitness in January 2000 and have almost all of her tapes too (do not have CTX, MIC, I-max, Wedding tape,C-max or kicks). I have lots of other tapes too my favorites being The Firm, Christi Taylor and Kari Anderson.

My immediate goals are 4 cardio and 2-3 strength workouts per week, drink more water, fresh fruit and vegetables and take a multi-vitamin and most of all start seeing a change in the way my clothes fit, SOON!!!

Let me know how often you would like to check-in. Hopefully we can motivate one another to achieve our goals :)

Congratulations Kelly!

It is always inspiring to hear someone else's success. I'm 5'5" and weigh 210 (I can't believe I said that), I practically wasted the last year (except I did gain some strength and endurance) but it is so encouraging to hear that you didn't.

weight loss support

Great! Kelly, you are inspiring. Since you both admittted it me I'll tell you I'm 5'7 and 203 lbs. I would like to be first 153- my pre-baby size 10 body, but ultimate goal is 142- size 8 wedding day body.

Interesting that we are all 31, I know that my friends and I observed that once we hit 30, the metabolism did tricks on us. In my early 20s I could eat donuts, chips and fast food and still wear an 8.

Crystal, I was thinking along similar lines as you- I am planning on doing cardio 4 or 5 times a week for 30-60 minutes in my target heart range and strenth training 2-3 times a week. I really enjoy the FIRM tapes for strenth, and some Cathe as well. I really like Cathe for cardio, in my opinion she is the queen of cardio. Plus I have a treadmill and recumbent bike. These two pieces of equipment give my an excuse to watch tv while my husband watches the kids.

I've been married for 6 years (yikes, that makes me feel old!) and yes it is hard work, but soooooo worth it! My kids are 3 and 1. Working out is basicly the only time I have for ME and my husband is wonderfully supportive of that. He even supports my video buying "habit".

How do you all want to do the check-in thing?

I would love to join in on this checkin.

I am 28, 5'6 and weighs 215. I have lost 15lbs since august and hit a plateau in November. I have founf this site and bought a ton of videos. I need to lose 70lbs to get to pre wedding weight 145-150. I also need to lose to try and get pregnant in the fall time.

I am going to do 6 cardio days with weight work twice.

Nikki

Count me in. I need a weight loss support group desperately. Although I'd only like to lose about 15 lbs, I still find myself slacking off and to put it bluntly, eating like a darn pig! I started a video rotation on the 1st and so far so good, except for a few sore muscles. My eating the last 2 days hasnt been perfect, but compared to before, it's awesome. I'm 29, going to turn the big 3-0 next month so I figure I better get with the program sooner rather than later. Thanks for the great idea. I think we can all use the encouragement and check-in!

I'll be in touch,

Stacy

Count me in too! I am 126 lbs 5'3" and struggling (yes struggling) with my last 10 pounds. I know that my age (38) has a lot to do with it, but I eat terribly and justify it by the fact that I workout!

BTW Segment 3 of Body Max wiped me out today! I think I had too much weight on my bar!

Unless someone else has a better suggestion, we could just check in at the end of each week like the regular checkin for encouragement. I didn't know if you wanted to post your weight loss or not. If so, we could do that on a monthly basis or actually whenever you want, I guess. I usually only weigh about once a month. Maybe someone else can come up with something better! It really doesn't matter to me. I will do what everyone else wants to do. :)

Kelly

Kelly that sounds good. Whoever starts the thread could just title it weight loss support? Nik I also want to get pregnant in the fall. Do you have any kids yet? For me it will be trying for my third (and last :) ) child. Sound like we both have a really good motivation to lose weight! Hey Stacy, so you will be soon part of the big 3-0 club, I did not mind turning 30. I feel so much more together and confident in myself in my 30s than I ever did in my 20s.

I am glad someone else is in my boat, about trying to get pregnant in the fall thing, it will motivate me more. Well I am trying for my first one. I would really like to be a healthy weight when I conceive so my body will feel better during pregnancy and after. I want to be a postive influence for my child from the get go.

It's funny that you said about weighing once a month, because that what I am starting to do for the new year. I don't want the scale to sabotage me.

Hi AmyNicole,
Boy, your post couldn't have come at a better time. I have been looking for some type of support, so I was so happy to read your post. I am hoping to become pregnant also. I actually need to lose probably 20 lbs but since I'm trying to become pregnant, I see no reason to try to become Demi Moore anytime soon. I simply want a healthy pregnancy and feel like a loss of 10 lbs would benefit me greatly. But for me, 10 lbs is alot! I will be 35 in 2 weeks. This would be my second child. Hope I can join your group. Any support would be such a blessing.

Thanks,
Lisa

Hi AmyNicole,
Boy, your post couldn't have come at a better time. I have been looking for some type of support, so I was so happy when I read your post. I am also trying to become pregnant (with my second child). I probably need to lose 20 lbs but I think even a 10 lb loss would benefit me greatly. I enjoyed my last pregnancy tremendously except for the remarks about how huge I was. I am 5'2 and I actually only gained 26 lbs last time. But because I am so short (especially my upper body), my stomach stuck straight out. People would ask me "how much have you gained, 50 or 60 lbs?" Anyway, I know I will look that bad again, but don't really care since a baby is certainly worth it. But for our health, I would be much better off 10 or 20 lbs lighter. Hope I can join your group! Any support would be so helpful.

Thanks,
Lisa

Wow, so many wanting to get pregnant! Yeaaaa! My only child is going to be 2 in February. I weighed 193 when I got pregnant and only gained about 29 pounds during pregnancy. Of course I was sick as a dog until about the 5th month. YUK! We plan to start trying again the first of 2002, approximately. We have to get a bigger house before that happens. I want to weigh less at 9 months than I did when I got pregnant the first time. I loved being pregnant but it was not fun being sick so much of the time but of course it was very well worth any discomfort.
Hey Lisa, I think women are beautiful when they are pregnant and don't let anyone tell you different! :)

what plan will you follow?

What are you all doing for the diet/excercise plan to achieve your goals? I am wondering if I should do less weights and focus more on cardio. I am going to count calories and keep a food journal aiming for 1,200 a day. How about you all?

A side note for those of us trying to get pregnant in the next year or so, make sure you take a multivitamin with folic acid or folate in it. It is CRUCIAL and the march of dimes recommends at least 400mg a day for several months BEFORE even trying to get pregnant. This is a mineral that takes several months to get stored in your body. It has been shown that women who have it in thier bodies prior to getting pregnant have a highly decreased risk for the baby developing spinabifida (spelling?) My ob/gyn reccommended it both times. Just food for thought.

RE: what plan will you follow?

My OB/GYN recommended the vitamins several months before also. Right now I am taking a multivitamin. I have an exercise and food journal aiming at about 1500 calories a day but have noticed that I am only getting about 1300. I am trying to overall cut down on calories, fat and somewhat on carbohydrates although I cannot cut down too much or I feel drained. I also watch my salt and sugar intake. I use dietwatch.com to keep records of my food, print it out and keep with my exercise journal. I do 3 cardio workouts a week and 3 weight workouts a week using various tapes for cardio and PS series for weights. I change my routine and tapes every month to 2 months. I finished up the year with MIS. I would suggest not cutting down too much on weight work but of course you have to find what works for you. I am constantly trying to find the perfect "mix". I guess I really will not know what is working for my muscles until I get the rest of the fat away so I can actually see all of them. LOL! Anyway, that is what I am doing as of now and we will see how the weight goes.

RE: what plan will you follow?

Hi again,

For diet I am watching my sugar, fat and added more vegetables and fruit. I want to only ingest 1200 calories, but I worry it will slow my metabolism or get me stuck on a plateau. If you have insight on this, please let me know.

What multivitamin does everyone use? Did your doctor recommend a certain brand?

Nikki

P.s. Thanks AmyNicole for starting this weight loss support. I think it will be a big help with meeting my goals.

Hey guys!
I'd love to join your group too. I'm 26yrs old, I have about 50# to loose. I just started this low carb diet, it's going pretty well. Of, course it's only been 4days. I do approx. 3 cardio's and 3 strength videos a week, if i'm lucky. I'm not trying to get pregnant until I graduate school in the spring of this year. But I do want to get ready for when I do think about kids. I can't imagine gaining pregnancy weight on top of the 50 extra pounds I have already. This is such an excellent idea, count me in too!

Uh oh is this the pregnancy prep check-in or the weight loss checkin? I'm beginning to feel out of place as the only one not trying to get pregnant (ever):-hmmm

Hi

This weight loss support check-in sounds great. I have about 10 pounds to lose. I am 30 years old 5'5" and weigh in the middle 130's. I actually haven't started the New year eating quite right. I never slack on the workouts, it is the eating. I am hopeing this support check in will help. I just wish I could eat better. My job is kind of slow and I find myself wanting to eat. I don't plan to have any more children, I have a beautiful daughter and son.

I think that 1200 calories is not enough. Our bodies need approximately 1400 a day just to exist. That is for a 5'4" woman.

Well, talk to you all soon.

Beverly
