Hello all im sure am glad to be here. i have much to learn from everyone. my question is is it normal to fluctuate between 3-5 pounds?

I fluctuate several lbs each day. Always have. I think it's mostly water retention and things like that. I weigh myself once a week as soon as I get up on Sunday morning before I get dressed. That supposedly will be the most accurate as it's the same time of day, same time of week, etc. There's not much point in weighing every day or more than once a day because of all the fluctuations. Others may have different views on this, but I can definitely say 3-5 lbs. weight fluctuations are pretty normal.

Yes, 3-5lbs fluctuations is completely normal.
I also believe that your "dry" weight is dependant upon your body schedule. If you are a morning/day person, your lightest weight may be when you first get up. Mine, however, is around 6-7pm as I am a total night person, plus work nights. Either way, it's when you first get out of bed, right?:) ;-)

I weight myself every morning and fluctuate b/t 1-2 lbs per day.

I will have larger fluctuations over a longer time period.

I have weighed myself after a "pig out" day and found myself actually a few pounds lighter than usual. The fluctuations mystify me sometimes.

I agree too!!

I've noticed that as I have gotten older ( I'm 39 right now) that the more drastic the weight fluctuations have become. 3-5 lbs is very much in my ballpark as well!

Some of the things that will make me retain water include:

Heavy Leg strength workouts ( the day after I always weigh more)
Long airplane trips
Taking Ibuprofen ( always gain 2 lbs the day after I have taken it)

Of course, the usual culprits as well... PMS, excess salt, oh and eating a huge dinner the night before! :)

I don't get freaked out about it anymore, I've just come to realize that's what my body does when exposed to any of those factors.

Take care, Lynn M.
