Hoping to get some wedding cake help from all you wedding savvy ladies here. It's been along time since i walked down the aisle, so things have changed. My neice is getting married in october. she came over the other day and asked me to paint a monogram cake topper for her. It is basically wood i think, already white. She wants it painted, and i used to do alot of painting so she though i would have ideas. I've never seen this type of cake topper and don't know what to do with it. Her colors for her wedding is champagne and i'm not even sure what to do with that.

Anyone see one of these, and how to paint it?? She is a very simple plain person, her cake is very simple as is the wedding itself.
She wouldn't want anything too extravagant, i don't think.

tia, for any input!!

I have never seen anything like this, but that doesn't mean anything - it sounds like a very interesting idea. Is is just a single wooden letter? What type of painting do you do? I'm not sure what would be appropriate with her wedding scheme but here are a few ideas that popped into my head:

- pale gold filigree all over the edges with solid white facings.
- small flowers done to look like what she's carrying in her bouquet, kind of trailing along the bottom or around the letter - not too many but enough to add some color
- paint whole thing pearlized champagne (pinkish?) and then use a similar but darker color to paint the left edges and another similar but medium color to paint the right edge, kind of like adding a shadow to give it some depth, if that makes sense
- is lace an option (maybe too fussy)? paint a base coat of medium/light champagne and then cover it with lace, like a stencil and brush over it with pearlized white/cream. When you take the lace off, the letter will have a textured lace finish. (practice with paper, first, if you haven't done this before - I have used this technique on boxes and had to work to get the lace pattern just right)

Hope you find a really great idea - but you have to post back with what you ended up doing (or a picture!) It sounds like a really unique way to personalize a wedding.

thanks for the ideas!!
It is actually three single letters, one each of their first name inital, then one for their last name. like a monogram towel LOL

what color is champagne do you think? I haven't seen the actual dresses. i was thinking tannish w/ a pink tinge??

Champagne is hard to describe... does she have a sample of the shade she's using? I've seen things called 'champagne' that range from pinky beige to off-white tannish.

Will there be flowers around the cake? If the champagne color doesn't work, maybe you could play off her flower color? It sounds like you need to keep it pretty simple, but elegant, so nothing too bright. That's why I was thinking gold or softer pearlized color - something classic.
