?Waxing the upper lip

I'm embarrased to ask this question. But here it goes.
Does anyone get their upper lip waxed? I've been thinking about it for awhile. The hair isn't dark but very fine and starting to get more of it. I've got very sensitive skin will it be irritated? I'm also afraid of how it will grow back - darker? more? If decide to stop doing it will it just grow back to how it was before I started to wax? I can't wear any kind of foundation because of it. Also, alot of the women on my mom's side have the very fine and light facial hair, so is this where I got it or maybe the fact that I've been on birth control pills since I was 18 years old (30 now). I hope someone can give me some advice.
Thanks,
Kim

I wax my upper lip, eyebrows and bikini area w/ dh's help. If you have a Sally's Beauty supply store close by you can wax yourself just ask the sales clerk. As far as sensitivity well there are many products out there to prepare the skin before and after waxing. The hair in my case grows back slower and finer. HTH :)

I was thinking of going to this salon in our mall where one of my co-workers gets her eyebrows done and she said that for some reason the wax that they use doesn't hurt as much as some of the other places she's been. Does the hair grow back the same color? I have fair skin and brunette hair so I'm afraid that it'll grow back dark.

I would say goo for having it done at the mall. I have never noticed any difference in hair color changes after waxing.

Hi Kim!! I do mine all the time. Like the above post I use the same products. When I first had it done it was at a salon and it was dark. Now it comes in a little bit lighter not much. I would try it at a salon but I find it very pricey and do it myself now that I know how to do it:)

Hi Kim,

No need to be embarrassed. I get my upper and lower lip waxed everytime I go in for a haircut. I think I'll have to start having my chin done at some point. I've never tried waxing my facial hair myself. Another option I've used is Nair hair removal for face, and it works good also and is very easy. I do think with Nair that the hair seems to come in more stubbly like-less soft than when the hair grows back after waxing.

a co worker of mine gets it done in a salon....she comes back with a real red upper lip for about an hour so if you get it done- plan on doing it way before a special event....I do it myself usually at night

I got mine removed through electrolysis. It costs a bit to get done but no more than getting professionally waxed every 6 weeks for the rest of your life.

I would say mine took about 30 30-minute sessions over the course of a year. At $20 - $25 per session, I spent $600 but I never have to spend again on my upper lip.

My electrolysis place offers discount packages if you buy 10 sessions in advance rather than paying each time.

I get my eyebrows shaped/waxed once a month and have her do my upper lip also. I could probably wait longer for the lip but as long as I'm there I have it done. As for the redness, I take 2 motrin 1/2 hour before I go and the redness goes away fairly soon and I have very fair skin. When I forget the motrin it stays red a while. I have very fine but dark hair on my uppper lip. If I was blond I would not bother but since its dark it shows up. As for regrowth, if anything it grows in finer after several years. I think its because hair grows in cycles so only part comes back. Because I get it done, I don't notice anything in between. I use to be very self concious of it and would not go back to not waxing it.

I plan on looking into laser hair removal but that also scares me because I'm afraid of scarring. I'll proably stick with waxing. I pay $10 for lip and $15 for eyebrows. I've heard from friends thats a lot but I live in Long Island NY and prices are high here for everything.

I would go for it and get it done at the salon. I bet you will feel happier with the results that way.
