Want to get in shape? Play like a kid!

This week I was at the river with my sons and they were swinging from a rope into the river. It looked like fun, so I decided to try it. It WAS fun! It was so much fun that I did it about a dozen times. But the next day my arms, lats and abs were SO sore! I have never had DOMS like that before. I guess holding onto that rope really worked my arms and lats hard. My abs must have been worked from holding up my legs as I swung across the river.

It's nice to know that sometimes all we need to do is "play" a little instead of always doing a regimented work out!

That sounds like lots of fun. :)

The other day Gabe (my 3 year old) and I needed to cool off. So I took a roll of my husband's plastic he uses for work and made us a homemade slip and slide. It was great!!!

We also play alot of kickball, tag and relay races. When we're at the playground, I"m the mom that climbs the monkey bars and slides through the tubes. I'm so glad that I am fit and able to do this with him. I see so many out of shape moms at the playground that just plop their fat butts down on a bench and smoke cigarettes. x(

I love not-acting my age not too mention getting some exercise in without really trying.

Your "play day" sounds like a lot of fun...and a good workout! And you were probably so distracted by the fun you were having, you didn't notice you were getting a workout.

I actually consider a lot of my workouts like "play" for adults. I often will incorporate some of my fun "toys": stability balls, Ooof balls, Bodywedge, to make my workout more fun, and arrange my puzzle mats in different patterns (I have black, red, blue, yellow and green).

Very nice post Margie. It's a blast to get out and "play" with the kids and it keeps you young and in great shape. You're right too many moms out on the sidelines when they ought to get in the game. I consider it a gift to be able to do what my kids can do (although I know there's a lot of hard work involved as well).

The other day we played cops and robbers. We live on a hill so the run around the house and jumping in holes in the field to hide, up and down the hill made me so winded I would swear I was doing Imax. Kids seem to "know" how to work out and have fun!!!!

My sons are grown, but when they were little I would play soccer with them and their friends in the back yard. Wow. It was the most winded and wiped out and sore the next day I have been in my life. And I was in fairly decent shape at the time--running, Firm, etc. These kids were murder.
