Want Lean, Sculpted Legs

I'm new to Cathe Videos and I just ordered the Intensity Series. I'm very excited about PUB and PLB! However, because I am pearshaped and tend to carry extra fat in my hips and thighs, will PLB bulk me up? What other leg workouts do you recommend? What weights would you recommend (I've been FIRMing for a few months now and typically do leg press with 10-15s, and I think I could go heavier without hurting myself if, um...motivated :) )

ANy advise you can offer will be great!!!

I'm also a pear and PLB made me smaller. I think because there are tons of reps and the floor work is awesome. I could barely walk the day after doing this one.

I have a tendancy to build muscle fast so I have to be careful with the weight I use. If you do PLB with lighter weights, you should be fine and the workout is fast enough where your HR stays up there. I use 30/35/40 lbs for the pyramids, but have gone up to 35/40/45 and noticed my legs getting too thick in the thigh area. If you notice this, just back off a few pounds next time you do it.

Another great leg workout you should consider buying is Legs & Glutes from the Body Blast series. This is an excellent lower body workout and will definitely trim down your thigh area. This one is my favorite for lower body work.
Hope this helps!

You can't beat the new Blast Legs & glutes because it works the legs differently than the pyramid. These two would be awesome.
I also found that running, walking, and kickboxing all help keep my thighs from bulking. Cathe has two kickbox actually 3, one is in the cross train xpress pack. All are awesome!

I also found I need to focus on my legs 2-3 times a week.

Hope this helps!!

Thanks for all of your great advice. I'll be sure to heavy up to about 40 pounds max on my leg sets in PLB. mmm...maybe I shoudl invest in a few more DVDs too! I'm so excited!

PLB and Legs and Glutes, definitely. L&G uses very light weights and some no weights but you will definitely feel it and see a difference with no bulking.

Running does amazing things to legs. I have always struggled with skinny legs and find it hard to find the right workouts that won't make the quads/calves too muscular and make the legs look shorter. I also hate doing too many reps or tempo moves. What I found to work was PLB Pyramid Up with 3 sets plus the floorwork. That gave just the right lean look. Then I took up running and kind of let the weights slide but it did good things for the legs too. Got rid of inner thigh fat...decreased calves size and decreased Quad lines.

Thanks for posting this! I had the same question about weights for LB, since I have huge thighs and while I see definition I want to blast that last layer of fat. I will make sure I use 40 lbs. as my heaviest weight and incorporate Legs and Glutes (which I love) and walking. Legs and glutes does use lighter weights and I can really feel it!

FitLisan,

I remember you from the Firm Bulletin Boards. I'm new to Cathe too, and so excited about them! I'm looking to step up my workouts a notch.

So far I 've purchased the Intensity Series and Body Blast ( I broke down and ordered it after hearing such great things about Legs and Glutes). What rotation do you plan to use? Also, do you plan on doing any of the Firm tapes in your rotations? I really want to give the incline box a chance and see what it does for my legs. (Can you tell that legs are my trouble area?? :p )

Well, any info you have will be greatly appreciated! Take Care!

I definitely plan to work legs at least 2X per week, but on which days should I kickbox and/or run. Right now, I'm doing Firm workouts, and the heaviest I lift on those is 30 pounds for legs (which is why I think I'm not getting the tightening/toning I'd like). I'm also trying to incorporate some light running and I love kickboxing. Should I do these activities on Leg Day or does it even matter?

Hi bernajo ......

I just wanted to say after reading that you want long sculpted legs, you might want to give Freestyle Training a try. This is what I do and I really like the results I am getting........ I will give you the web sites so you can read about it......

and I do my Freestyle Training with Cathe's lower body workouts..... hope this helps............ Rhonda:7

I'm also pear shaped. I didn't bulk up with PLB until my barbell reached 45 lbs. This, to me. is my limit. Yours might be different.

Other great leg workouts are PS-Legs, LL, L&G and kickboxing. KPC gives my butt and outer thighs a nice sore the day after. The circuit section for legs in BodyMax is also good. I prefer CTX-Power Circuits for a circuit-style leg work.

The two that sculpt lean mean legs are for me:

1) "Circuit Max", but instead of doing compound moves during the weights segments, I grab a 25 pound barbell and pump out squats, plie squats, lunges in various forms on floor, on to bench, off bench, frontways, backwards

2) "Leaner Legs" from the CTX series. This remains my all time favourite and the most effective of all of Cathe's legs workouts.

Hey J,

Right now I am doing a Cathe only rotation. This week I will start with the PS series. As one of the ladies here mentioned, I like to keep my cardio separate from my weights as much as I can since I get tired. However, on Upper Body days I might go for a walk. I want to walk 3X a week doing intervals, jump rope, and do KPC for cardio. As for weights, I love, love PLB and Legs and Glutes. I hope to see better results by doing these more often.
Good Luck, NIVEA

Wow - how much did your calves actually go down in size? I have never been able to change the size of my calves unless I lost weight.
