walking program with powerbelt

Hello all,

Does anyone use a powerbelt? If so, is it enough to be a strength training workout? I'm trying to get back to a walking program and am having a hard time fitting in strength with it so I was considering purchasing this.

Also, does anyone primarily walk for aerobics? If so, how do you incorporate your strength training? What type of rotation etc?

Thanks for any advice you can provide. It's very much appreciated.

I have one, and I've used it for the videos you can get with it from Walker's Warehouse (a couple of times each, a long time ago). It's pretty much gathering dust for now, but I'd like to use it for walking some time.

I wouldn't count it as much of a strength training workout, at least not an intense one, but I can see how it would be good for someone who walks. Much better than carrying weights. Using it supposedly burns more calories because you are incorporating the upper body as well as the lower body.

Is a power belt the same type belt that Leslie Sansone uses in some of her videos? Just curious. Since walking is all I can do anymore for cardio, I'm curious too if these belts are helpful and worth buying. If it's not the same as Leslie's belt, where do you buy a power belt? Thanks for any help.

No,not at all. They're the same idea, but Leslie's belt is very flimsy compared to the Power Belt and only has one resistance level. You could basically do the same thing by wrapping a resistance band around your waist. the Power Belt is a wider belt with round "power packs" that you clip on, that are attached to nice ergonomic handles (like some ski-pole handles or cane handles) which are attached to some very sturdy cords. The resistance isn't controlled by the cords themselves (they don't stretch like resistance bands), but by the power pack that is kind of like the resisance on a Nordic track machine. I have the 1, 2 and 3 level resistance packs (I think that's as far up as they go).

You can get the Power Belt through www.walkerswarehouse.com . They are affiliated with Prevention magazine, and usually there is an ad for them in "Prevention," often with a discount code or special offer (Prevention is usually right at the check-out counter of many stores, so you can page through while waiting in line to see if there's a deal for the Power Belt). I got mine for 20% off using a discount code from Prevention.
