Walking Club

I'm starting a walking club here at work for the staff. I'm wondering if anybody has started one, involved in one, etc. I'm looking for any good ideas, motivational ideas - basically anything. :)

They will all where pedometers and record every day on a log book. Once a week they will turn that in and there will be prizes for those who walked the most, etc.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Just a suggestion: although I do not belong to a walking club, I absolutely love power walking during my lunch hours a couple three times per week, with my headphones playing some nice, uptempo bouncy music to keep my pace up. I've also been involved in a group lunchtime walk, and found that the chit-chat factor usually got in the way of a fitness walking pace.

If you can find a nice LITTLE boombox that is very portable, I'd suggest investing in some good music tapes that are made by aerobics music companies (Power Music; Dynamix; Muscle Mixes; etc.) that go in the 128 - 135 bpm range, and use those to keep the pace during the walk sessions.

I dont belong to a walking club either, but what my co-workers and I do is twice a month, we hire softball equipment, go out to the local park and play softball.

Partners are also invited so not only do we do something productive, (as not everyone I know is into regular exercise), it becomes a very social occasion for everyone. After, we have a picnic or a barbeque.

We just started this, this spring/summer so Im not sure whats going to happen in the winter!! Hopefully we will find an inside activity we can all share.

The only suggestion I can make about walking is observing other group walkers around our area, and what they do is break up the walking by using the park equipment for pushups and tricep dips etc. This would help keep the bodys "green" light switched on.:)
