waist exercises

Dear Cathe, I would like to know if there is a daily exercise I can do for reducing my waist? I have a very short space between my hips and lower rib cage, and it makes me look almost as though I don't even have a waist. My waist is at 28 and 3/4 inches. I would like to reduce it to at least 25 inches. I am 5'2" and weigh 130 lbs. I mostly need to firm up. I have been using three of your videos and I like them alot.(Back, Biceps and Abs-Strong legs and Abs and Chest shoulders and Triceps.) Thank you for your feed back. Yvonne Comm

waist trouble

Are sit-ups the only exercise for this area? Are there any waist specific exercises? I still have a small "pooch" in front from my babies, but I would like to tone the sides also.I do sit ups on Cathe's tapes, Abs of Steel situps, and Firm More 5 Day abs. I feel like I am well proportioned, except for my waist! Not enough of a curve. Hope Cathe or someone responds!

Kickboxing is great!

You have to use you abs so much to keep proper form, and it really seems to do a lot for my abs. They aren't perfect, by any means, but I saw a real difference when I added kickboxing to my rotations. If you go with something like Tae Bo, I would advise using the Live tapes, since they are much better than the original series. Kathy Smith has an excellent beginning kickboxing video ( as in "never kickboxed before" teaching form pointers, not necessarily beginner level cardio. ). I hope this helps.

need more recommendations!

Thanks for the good idea Erin! I have tried Taebo, I have the original series and Live 1. I feel like I understand the "how-to's" of kickboxing, so I'm not a starter. I have done the advanced, the basic isn't enough of a workout, but I feel like the advanced doesn't allow me enough time to get my body into position to kick. I end up hurting my back because I kick incorrectly in order to keep up with the class. Hope that all makes sense. Does Kathy Smith do enough to be considered a high intensity workout? Can anyone recommend any others that might be good for me?

Kickboxing

Actually I didn't mean to push Tae Bo at all. I tried all of the ones you listed and disliked them for the very reason you staed, the speed was too much for safe form. You might like Tae Bo Live Advanced 4. It has no double time kicking at all and the music is great. Kathy Smith is about an intermediate level video. It's nowhere near as intense as some of the other kickboxing out there. Have you tried Power Kicks or Total Energy by Aaron Lankford? They're good and don't have any of the super fast kicks. If you like more choreographed stuff, you might want to try CIA 9907 Kick It with Janis Saffel. She drills in the first 20 minutes or so, then puts what you just learned into a very fun combo, and ends with toning. If you want long and intense, but not complex, CIA 9902 is very intense. It's lead by Keli Roberts, and a many people really like it a lot.

Thanks Erin!

I may try Aaron Lankford or Keli Roberts. I would like to have a good kickboxing tape to use for some crosstraining. Cathe's will be out soon, and I'm sure hers will be awesome! thanks for the ideas!!

kickboxing

I really like Kick-Itt 2000 with Franny Benedetto, the production quality isn't very good, but it's a great work-out. The total workout time is about 1 hour.
