Vista ???

I have to buy a new computer and I am wondering if there is anyone here who knows a lot about computers, and could answer a question. Should I get one with vista, or am I going to regret it? I was thinking I should because all future programs will be based off of it in the future and will need to have it. But, I talked to someone who said it was a bad idea because there would be all kinds of security threats that people won't know about and he said he wouldn't recommend getting it until it's at least 3 years old. Getting a new computer is a lot of work. Is there anything major I should look for?

Heather,

Chances are your future computer will already have Vista installed whether or not you want it. Your friend was correct regarding security threats, however, the same things happened with XP. The only discouraging thing I have read in the last few days is that Apple and Nvidia are pissed at Microsoft because their products are not compatible with Vista (ie ITunes...Video cards). Is this computer for home? Or work? Do you REALLY need a new one right now? I would opt for waiting for at least 6 months. The bugs should be caught by then and compatibility issues should be resolved.

Good Luck!
