video night n snacks

My boyfriend and I do video nights ocassionally, well now that I'm really trying to watch what I eat, I want something we can enjoy without too much guilt afterwards. Will someone please toss me a few good ideas?

OMG, I don't know if anyone is out there from sunny CA, but it is scorching today 95-100 degrees today!

Hi nspire,

Here are some things that we snack on when watching movies, although some are healthier than others:

--raw nuts or homemade trail mix
--popcorn or (if we're feeling naughty) microwave Kettle Korn (regular or low-fat)
--low-fat pita chips from Trader Joe's or veggies with hummus
--low-fat tortilla chips from Trade Joes's with salsa

Where are you at in California? We're down in north San Diego, and are getting that heat wave, too! It's been close to 90 here all day!:)

Thanks for the snack ideas. I know you mentioned salsa w/low fat tortilla chips, what about bean dip, is that ok?

Oh, I'm near SDSU college area.

I sometimes snack on the sugar free fudgesicles, they are only 40 calories a piece.:) Oh, and bean dip is actually pretty low in fat, watch the labels though.

I love guacamole with carrot sticks and blue corn chips. My guacamole is just 2 avocadoes, a helathy dash of worcestershire sauce, a garlic piece (blend all that together first and then add yog) and low fat natural yoghurt. Can't get much healthier than that!!

I'm up in Carlsbad, but I'm definitely familiar with the SDSU area!:)

All the snack suggestions are great . . . I just do air popped popcorn, no butter, little seasoning. Pretty guilt free. And I am in state of complete envy over your hot temperatures! I'm in Wisconsin and they are predicting snow flurries today - bummer.

Air-popped popcorn, with a spray of soy sauce (or Bragg's amino acids, which taste like soy sauce) and a sprinkle (or more---what I prefer!) of nutritional yeast (which tastes kind of cheesy).

Some of the other ideas sounds yummy! But I'd personally be careful about calorie-dense stuff like nuts, because I know how much mindless eating can happen while watching TV/movies. Before you know it, you (or I!) could easily scarf down hundreds of calories and still keep going.

To satisfy an urge to chew (during those tense chase scenes, perhaps?), how about some sliced veggies (cukes, carrots, jicama, red pepper) using some Zesty Italian dressing as a dip? Lower cal, but high chew factor (if that sounds good to you!)

We buy a big box of the 100 calorie popcorn bags from costco and snack on those at night. It's satisfying and not a lot of calories.
