Versa Grip vs. Lifting Hooks

Opinions needed. I've tried lifting straps but they were too cumbersome and didn't help. Lifting hooks look like just what I need. The Versa Grips look good, but are pricy. But I would spend the $$ if they are worth it.

What works for you?

Thanks,

I owed two sets of lifting hooks and hated them both. One pair with two hooks dug into my wrist and hand horribly. The other with one center hook felt like the hook was in the way and I couldn't get a good grip. I now own a set of Versagripps and absolutely love them. Very comfortable and very easy to use. I also know a few other ladies on this board that have purcahsed them as well and love them just as much as I do! HTH!

Thanks to Linda's advice a few months back, I bought a pair of Versagripp classics and love them. I never tried hooks so I can't comment on those but I would not have made it through Meso3 without my Versagripps as my forearms could not handle a 100# BB for things like deadlifts & rows. I could even put them on right over my lifting gloves with no problems.

Hate the hooks.

LOVE the Versa Gripps!!! I'll never go back...they are worth more than the money. No more burning forearms.

However, it does take a few workouts to get used to them.

Thumbs up for VersaGripps

I mentioned this over in the STS section on grip strength too - my VersaGripps came yesterday, in time for the end of Meso 1 Legs. WONDERFUL! Easy to use, easy on/off, comfortable, and they feel quite safe. Also, they didn't get in the way if you choose not to use them on some sets. That is important to me; I do want to continue to work on grip/forewarm strength. You can slip these 'gloves' over (or under) weighted gloves too.

Yes, thanks for answering me. I had never heard of these until your post. Did you get the "Classic" ones?

Elsie,

Actually I went with the FIT. Apparently all models are usable for the same amount of weight - there isn't anything in the materials that make one stronger than the other.

The Pro and the Classic are larger. I saw comments on Amazon that suggested the Pro was better than the classic; apparently the materials in the Pro are grippier, and they also have antibacterial etceteras built in. The Classic is supposed to be closer to rock-climbing glove material.

I liked the smaller design of the Fit from the pictures, and thought it would be less bulky on my hand and wrist ... and it seems to fit just fine. It doesn't feel like I am wearing a man's glove. And, I definitely don't need any additional width on the wrist strap! It's perfect as is.

The FAQ might help you decide among the options, if you decide to go with the VersaGripp: http://www.versagripps.com/?area=faq

I'm officially enabled! I was leaning toward the fit because my hands and wrists are very small. It would be worth the extra $$ to have them be comfortable. I really do want something that I'll be happy with for the long haul.

How was the sizing for you? Do yours fit okay according to the given measurements? I measured my wrist and it's just barely under 6", so I'm considering the XSmall.

Also, did you order directly from their website? The price and the shipping are the same on Amazon. I'm thinking I'd rather order from Amazon because I order from them all the time. I'd rather not give my info to yet another website.

Thanks for all your help,

Always happy to enable :D:D:D

The sizing was fine for me. I went with a larger size than you - medium. My wrists are also 6", but I have a larger hand and tend to wear lady's large gloves, so it seemed safer to go a bit larger. I also measured both wearing my weight gloves and wrists, just to be sure I could wear them over or under, and this bigger (Medium) size was the suggested one if I included the wrist band on the gloves, but it really wasn't necessary and I could have gone with a small. The strap is one of those velcro wraps and they added extra length. Fortunately the larger size also didn't add bulk. And, it really is very easy to move the flap out of the way so my original thought (that these Gripps would have to be on the outside of the weighted glove) wasn't right. They are fine underneath.

I stuck with Amazon too. I'm with you; no need to put that personal information on more websites!

Let me know how you like these; I hope they help!
