Valor Squat Stands

I have them, and I really like them.

I've actually only used them once so far, but they worked fine (for squats and lunges). I liked not having to clean the bar from the floor: it not only seems safer, but takes less time to set up between sets (which would be nice for PLB). They also can be set low enough to work for bench press (and to take up less visual space when storing them).

They were definitely worth the price for me.

I love that they take up a reasonable amount of space (I have no more space for exercise equipment---well, except maybe a rowing machine I want to get for Christmas or my birthday!---and these stow away in a corner).

The only thing I didn't like about them is the instructions, which are pretty much just a diagram of how the pieces go together. When I first set them up, I did have something in the wrong place, but I'm a problem solver and I figured it out pretty quickly.

(Just remember if you get these: set them up so that you face them, and back out of them to unload the bar and walk forward into them to reset the bar.)

Hey Kathryn,

Can you use something like this with the BB for pullups??
Ive been in the market for an afordable rack like that, but want to make sur eit wold be tall and sturdy enough for pullups as well.. what would you say??

Kathryn:

Are they sturdy enough on carpet do you know? They might be something I will consider buying as opposed to the weighted vest - I'll get better use out of that as I will quickly outgrow the 10 lb weighted vest (i HOPE!)

I'm not sure. I'll try it when I have time (soon!...well, I won't really HAVE time soon, but I'll make it...class prep and all that stuff!).

I'd be concerned about stability. And I think it would depend a lot on a person's weight and maybe shape (I'm just thinking that different shapes might affect how the 'pull' would be against the bar...or maybe more form for doing the pullups?)

I'll get back to you soon on it (though I can't do a pullup anymore, so I don't know how much it will help! I'll at least do a good partial or hang!)

I don't have carpet, but since they are stable on wood floors, I would think they'd be stable on most carpets (sinking down in a bit). Except maybe really frou-frou plush ones? That's just a guess. When I get to experimenting with the pull-ups, maybe I'll try to jerry-rig a pseudo carpet by using some throw rugs. I'll get back to you!

Awww, that's sweet of you. I would assume they are pretty heavy and sturdy though - I think I'm heading to sports authority this weekend to check them out!

Kathryn,
How heavy is the bar that you put on the stand? I can use a pretty heavy bar for squats but have a hard time getting it up and onto my shoulders safely. I'd like to try something like this but want to know if it would hold 60 lbs. or so. I have a weighted vest, but this would still help.

Thanks!

I wasn't sure, so I searched on the web. They say that you shouldn't use over 250# on it: I think it will hold all that I need it to hold!

(If not, I'll add my weighted vest, LOL!)

So I guess if you weigh more than 250#, doing pullups on it would also be a bad idea!

I called the three Sports Authority locations where I live and none had the stands in stock -- they are an online item only for them. I hope you have better luck.

I also have these and LOVE them!!! They are perfect for the squats and heavy lunges, but also for heavy bench presses. My only problem is that I can't quite fit my step bench between them with the way the legs are for bench press, but it's not anything that I cant work around. I use them on carpet and don't have ANY issues with stability or lack thereof. I also use them for incline pull ups and don't have any stability issue. I am a large person, so not having stability issues is a HUGE thing for me and I have a 5' barbell that these work well with.

Kathryn (I'm Kathryn also!), I think 250 lbs. will cover me forever! I was thinking 60, 70 tops. Thanks for checking for me!

There is one right near my house so I'm gonna check it out anyway - need to get a rack for my plates anyway. Thanks for the info!!

Oh, goodie! That means I don't have to test them out (I'm swamped this week prepping courses for Monday, and in my 'free time,' I'd rather relax with a nice homemade bath soak while listening to a French thriller on MP3!)

This is exactly what I've been looking for!! Most squat racks I've looked at are too wide for my troy lite bar so these would be perfect. I like that you can adjust these to do bench press using the step as well.

I have always been limited by what I can hoist over my head for squats or curl up for bench press;)

Thanks for the info!

JJ
