Valor BD-8 Deluxe Squat Stand, what size weight bar

I was looking at ordering the Valor Squat Stand but was wondering if a 5 foot weight bar will work. Anyone out there who has this squat stand please let me know what you are using for a weight bar.
Thanks for your time,
Denise

Sure. That's the beauty of the stands, is that you move them to whatever width you need.

ETA: I have the BD 3, but I can't see where they would be any different in that respect.

I have the BD-8, and I love them! The only problem is that my step doesn't fit quite right in between them w/the Troy Lite barbell. The barbell seems like it needs to be just a bit longer.

Take the rubber feet off of the stands on the side that needs to slide around the risers. Again, I have the BD3 and I know the BD8 has a slightly different configuration, but taking those rubber pieces off gave me exactly the right amount of space I need.

Thank you so much Nancy! I guess I was worried it would move around if I did that...but now I'll try it! And even if it does move (it's on linoleum in my laundry room), I could put the stands on my mat. Doh!

I did the first Meso 2 workout with chest exercises in it last week, and it was just so awkward doing the bench presses with my barbell barely fitting. I have that workout scheduled again for tomorrow, and now it should work great! Thanks again!

I had been having that problem, but yesterday I found I was able to wedge it in there. But I love the stand -- especially in Meso 3!

You're welcome! With the feet wedged around the riser, I doubt if it's going to go anywhere. I have my step and racks set up on puzzle mats when I do weight work, so sliding around isn't an issue for me.

I am thinking about purchasing the valor stands. My questions to you ladies is, are they very heavy? I workout in my bedroom and would like to move them to the basment when not in use. Do they work both for squats and bench press? Also, which model do you recommend. Thank you!!

I wouldn't want to have to move them up and down stairs each time. Because of their design -- wide on the bottom and super narrow at the top -- they are not heavy to lift, really, but awkward. I could see me banging up the walls, my shins, and everything else. As it is, when I move them I have learned to do it carefully to keep from hitting my ankles. I move them into place and then back out of the way for the workouts, but they are stored in the same room where I work out.

I agree with Nancy. They are heavy, but not too heavy to move. However, it is very awkward to move them, and would be even more awkward going up and down stairs.

If you do need to move them, I would not get the BD-8 (unless you can get it cheaper or the same price as the BD-3). The only advantage of the BD-8 is the pegs where you can store your plates, but that wouldn't help you if you're always moving them.

They work great for squats and bench presses. The only thing with bench presses is that I don't have enough risers for my step to use the step in a flat position with the lowest the barbell can go on the posts. However, I think you can probably use the safety catches for bench presses, which go much lower.

Thanks for your replies. If it is not too much to ask, could tell me what is the size of the base in inches of BD3. Thanks!

Is the Power Tower or Push Pull Tower (whatever they're calling it now) not an option for you? I didn't take a close look at it on the RT as I knew I wasn't ordering it and just kept forgetting it was there. But from what I've read it seems like it would be relatively easy to move around. And I think it costs less than the squat stands. Of course, if it's for squats that you're wanting the equipment it won't work. But if you're looking for something to use for chest work, etc., then it seems like a good piece of equipment.

Oops. I just read on another thread that once the tower is assembled it is too big to move through doorways and up stairs without disassembling it

Wow, I should have known to come here and get the info I needed. Thanks, ladies. I've been eyeing up the BD-8 for a while now. It would have never occured to me that my step would be a very tight fit.

mgm1, I think these are for bench pressing, not squating.

Yes, Nancy I was afraid the power tower will not work.
I see on Amazon Safety Stands squat stands that are smaller the valor BD3 for like $84, but they only go up to 35" in hight.

I don't know how can anyone squat with them. I am really looking for something that can be moved around, I just don't need more fitness equipment in my bedroom.
