Using weights consecutive days

MSS I am new to this site so I don't know if this has been covered before. I have exercised for years and have always heard that you should allow muscles to rest for one day between workouts. Most of my Cathe tapes have circuit training. Is it okay to do those on consecutive days - working the same muscle, but in a different way? Or should I stick with aerobics one day, strength trainig the next?
