Using mini-trampoline for high-intensity drills

Hi all,

I'm a very long-time Cathlete. I remember buying my first Cathe tape in 1994 and at that time I had no problem doing jumps and high-intensity drills. But now I'm 40, and my knees just can't keep up!

I've started using a mini-trampoline instead of the floor when doing jumping jacks, plyos, and other high-intensity drills. I've been able to do this for HiiT, Cardio Core Circuit, and Drill Max. I figured I'll do this until the low impact series comes out!

Does anybody have any other DVD suggestions that I could substitute the mini-trampoline for the floor work?

Thanks!
Lori

I never thought a rebounder (JumpSport) could be so much fun! I got mine for the rest periods in-between lifting sets, like Meso 3 of STS. Instead of walking around, I'll jump for 2 minutes, its great to loosen up the body after heavy lifting. Then I began doing Cardio Coach on it, totally fun! I have a TRX anchored to the ceiling of my basement and when I remove the straps I attach a pair of handles to the loop and jump away without fear of jumping OFF. So far I've found I can do most of Cathe's ab work on it too. My daughter has Shaun T's Hip Hop Abs, and that is completely doable on the rebounder, plus the music is perfect for it. So are parts of Insanity, but for me it takes out a lot of the work, and I feel like I'm slacking. I also use it to warm up and cool down on after any of Cathe's workouts, since I have it set up in my gym.

Very cool ideas! I LOVE my rebounder -- honestly, I never thought I get could as good of a workout as I get on it! I find myself missing it if I don't do it for a few days.

I've always been a high-intensity exerciser, so switching to a rebounder kind of felt like I was sliding back a bit. But I'm finding that I can do Cathe's high-intensity floor work so much better and with much better form now, plus I don't have to ice my knees for hours after.

I never thought to do ab work on it -- looks like I know what I'm doing tomorrow! Many thanks...:D

I've done MIC on the rebounder. The jumpy stuff from Kick Max also works well on the rebounder.

Even when not doing all the workout on the rebounder, if there are intervals or moves that are two high-impact for you, keep your rebounder set up to the side so you can go to it when needed.

mini trampoline

I'm curious, I have one set up and haven't used it in....forever! Do you just make the same moves you would do on the DVD, but instead of doing them on the floor, you are doing them on the trampoline?

Pretty much just like that. I bought mine for different reasons, but I did try it with a couple of Cathe's ab workouts and its way more comfortable on the spinal area. I've used it for some higher impact moves to check it out and its completely doable, just keep the rebounder next to your workout floor.

Depends on the moves. Sometimes yes, sometimes I modify by going in the same general direction, but doing a diffferent move. For example, a step/touch move can be a jack or a 'pony' from one side to the other (right-left-right, left-right-left).
