I have read some literature that suggests inverted positions, such as some yoga poses, are not recommended during pregnancy. Would this include flip turns while swimming laps in a pool? I am 26 weeks pregnant.

Re: Flip turns

I would advise you to discontinue your flip turns for the remainder of your pregnancy due to ligament laxity and the resulting joint instability that may result during pregnancy. Also, you have 2 round ligaments that support your uterus in your abdominal cavity. The are attached to the uterus and insert on the labia. During pregnancy, these ligaments stretch from 2 inches at the beginning to around 12 inches at term. Flip turns could cause these ligaments to go into a "spasm" which could be quite painful.

Save those flip turns for after the baby comes!

Good luck and keep us posted.
