upright vs spin bike

eventually, i need to get a different bike. my current bike is recumbent, as i've posted before. the main thing i can't do on the recumbent is stand up while pedaling, unless i stand on the other end above the pedals, which doesn't feel so stable.

so is there really much difference in a spin bike? won't an upright be basically the same?

How much do you have to spend? Do you have a road bike? If you can afford it then I'd go with a road bike/indoor trainer--that way you can ride outside in nice weather and then inside on the same bike in winter. Otherwise I'd go for the spin bike.

my bf has a 21 speed Next Breakpoint Pro. if i was to put a bike on a trainer, that would be the one to use. i googled it, it says it's a moutain bike. my bike is an ancient 10 speed.

so it's possible we could put his bike on a trainer.

i think we could spend $100-200.or i'll end up getting a used bike on craig's list, which we've had good luck with, but lots of affordable bikes out there. i could probably buy new.

one concern i would have is the pedals. are the pedals wider on reg. bike? i have wide feet. on my current bike, i can't wear shoes.
